Responsibilities:

The Pretesting Licensed Practical Nurse in the Outpatient Lab area performs under the direction of the Pretesting Registered Nurses in the Pretesting Department. The LPN incorporates knowledge of the nursing process and performs preliminary physical testing using professional standards contributing to the completion of the patient appointment through both pretesting lab work and patient education.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Obtain and record patient information and vital signs in EPIC including but not limited to height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respirations reporting any abnormalities as necessary.
  2. Perform EKG testing according to anesthesia standing orders or physician order. Report any abnormal EKG reports to the Pretesting Review Nurse.
  3. Draw and collect blood samples, MRSA swab, and/or urine sample from patients according to anesthesia standing orders and/or physician order. Prepare specimens for analysis according to laboratory guidelines.
  4. Complete patient preoperative education including but not limited to patient preoperative medication instructions, incentive spirometry teaching, chlorhexidine bathing instructions, ICOUGH instructions, patient pain scale, and any additional patient instructions related to the procedure or day of procedure.
  5. Anticipates and prevents periods of extreme workload within a shift as evidenced by good time management and organizational skills.
  6. Completes all patient care documentation according to hospital policy identifying and addressing incomplete documentation.
  7. Coordinates with other team members and other departments to complete the pretesting process in a timely manner.
  8. Provides for patient safety and protection of patient privacy rights.
  9. Recognizes and performs duties which are needed even when not directly assigned.
  10. Intervenes promptly and courteously to resolve problems and promote customer satisfaction.
  11. Maintains work area by keeping items stocked, clean, and orderly.
  12. Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Nursing Education for Licensed Practical Nurse from an accredited nursing program.
  • Active Licensed Practical Nursing license in Tennessee
  • 3 years of experience
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support
