Parking Security Officer - Facilites Management & Campus Services - Parking and Transportation Services

Carnegie Mellon University’s department of Facilities Management & Campus Services (FMCS) is searching for a Parking Security Officer to join the team! This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in an exciting and challenging work environment.
As a uniformed employee of Parking Transportation Services, you will conduct daily monitoring of parking facilities, and lots owned by Carnegie Mellon University and conduct patrol rounds of university parking areas to ensure the safety and security of the assigned occupants/users.

In addition, you will enforce all university parking policies and regulations, and investigate and complete written and/or electronic reports concerning suspicious activity, persons, and unsafe conditions immediately.

Core responsibilities will include:

  • Write and issue Carnegie Mellon parking citations.
  • Apply locks/boots to vehicles with outstanding parking citations.
  • Perform motorist assistance services upon request including jump-starting vehicles.
  • Assist with the repair of gate malfunctions.
  • Facilitate the movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic on and immediately adjacent to the main campus.
  • Direct traffic flow and access control of gate operations during special events and large gatherings, perform other duties as advised and assigned by the appropriate authority within Parking & Transportation Services.

You must demonstrate:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • General knowledge of and above-average ability to use desktop computers, mobile computers, use of MS Word, and other related computer programs.
  • Ability to traverse campus grounds and climb stairs; operate and patrol in a marked university vehicle.
  • Ability to operate/use all standard police radios, lifting 50 pounds and frequent lifting/carrying of 25 pounds.
  • Ability to sit, stoop, bend, kneel/squat, push/pull, and reach above shoulders.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations, and ability to deal politely and courteously with a diverse campus population

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma; GED
  • Equivalent experience and/or education may be considered in lieu of a degree

Requirements:

  • Successful Background Check
  • Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR)
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol screen
  • Fitness for duty assessment and pre-employment medical exam
  • Child Protective Clearance (Act 153)
  • Valid PA driver's license
  • ACT 120 training at an MPOETC certified academy, prior security, or police experience in a college/university environment

  • Sponsorship: Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States. CMU will not sponsor or take over the sponsorship of an employment visa for this opportunity. Carnegie Mellon is not a qualifying employer for the STEM OPT benefit: only the 12-month OPT may be used to work at Carnegie Mellon.
