Overview:

This position is responsible for assisting the Department Supervisor in training and cross-training of department personnel in the proper operation of machines and/or equipment as well as all procedures and processes used within the department.

The Lead is responsible to inspect and organize the department as directed, ensuring efficient product flow and maximization of man-hours throughout the department. The Lead will operate equipment and perform labor functions as required to achieve operational goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Achieve the daily production requirements, quantities, hot orders and turn demand as outlined by the Department Supervisor and/or daily reporting conveyance
  • Achieve all internal and external customer requirements as outlined by Customer Specification and/or the Department Supervisor
  • Assess and report accurate information regarding quantities, productivity and labor requirements on a daily basis
  • Maintain flexibility throughout the day in order to change priorities, re-assign employees and shift focus to the achievement of immediate goals
  • Conduct and/or actively participate in motivational start-up meetings at the beginning of each shift and convey appropriate information to employees regarding production schedule requirements, specific employee assignments, company announcements and/or other related business
  • Maintain accurate break and lunch schedules for all departmental employees and ensure daily adherence
  • Ensure employees are accurately recording all product information and movement through the proper use of scanning equipment or other tracking systems
  • Ensure employees are operating all equipment in a safe and productive manner, following all company prescribed guidelines and safety practices
  • Ensure employees are maintaining productivity requirements through the use of system checks and visual observation on a daily basis
  • Maintain a clean and organized department, completely free of non-utilized product, excess product, trash or other items that may distract from productivity
  • Maintain clear aisle-ways, organized storage areas and execute good safety housekeeping practices
  • Complete all tasks assigned in a timely and accurate manner including all related paperwork
  • Comply with and enforce all company policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Has or will possess advanced abilities in and knowledge of all duties outlined above, and the ability to clearly communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Must have excellent sight, hearing and verbal communication skills both in person and on the telephone, along with the eye, hand and body coordination necessary to efficiently operate all equipment within the department
  • Must be able to physically lift 70 pounds, walk from location to location, sit, stand, bend stoop, push, pull, reach and/or climb

Education & Experience:

  • Some college level coursework or a minimum of 3 years prior experience in an automated distribution or manufacturing environment
  • Will have daily contact with all staff and subordinates, therefore position requires excellent interpersonal skills with prior leadership experience a plus
  • Working knowledge of the facility, including automation, equipment, AS400 and P.C. knowledge is desired
  • Courtesy, tact, ability to multi-task and handle pressure is required
  • Must be certified in powered lift equipment operation
