The Technical Editor is responsible for reviewing and revising intelligence or communication products, along with other documents prepared by Department of Defense (DoD) analysts for publication into the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS) and the Secretary of Defense’s Intelligence Update.

This role involves working closely with primary authors to edit and rewrite products, ensuring proper organization, grammar, style, accuracy, and consistency of technical data. The editor will also advise management and analysts on the application of expert technical knowledge regarding the DIA Style Guide.

The editor is required to have flexibility and the ability to operate on short timelines, with a strong emphasis on excellent oral and written communication skills. In addition to standard duties, at the discretion of the Division Chief, the editor may support crisis management operations, assist with editing desk notes for senior leaders, and review products for dissemination to partner services.

Shift: 1100 - 1900

Responsibilities:

  • Review and edit intelligence products prepared by DoD analysts for clarity, accuracy, style, grammar, and technical consistency.
  • Collaborate with primary authors to refine documents and ensure they align with established intelligence standards.
  • Advise management and analysts on technical writing best practices, ensuring adherence to the DIA Style Guide and other editorial guidelines.
  • Contribute to the timely delivery of high-quality intelligence products under tight deadlines.
  • Support crisis management operations as needed, including editing desk notes for senior leaders and reviewing products for partner services dissemination.
  • Edit and enhance all-source intelligence analysis products, ensuring they meet Intelligence Community (IC) analytic standards and the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act’s requirements.
  • Maintain expert-level proficiency with the application of IC analytic standards, including ICD 203 (Analytic Standards) and ICD 206 (Sourcing Requirements).
  • Ensure the timely production of polished documents in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience producing all-source intelligence analysis and managing the production of analysis products.
  • At least 3 years of experience as a technical editor within an Intelligence Community (IC) organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply IC analytic standards and analytic tradecraft standards as defined in the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act, ICD 203 (Analytic Standards), and ICD 206 (Sourcing Requirements).
  • Shift Work: Ability to work a shift schedule from 1100 - 1900.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance, with either a current CI Poly or the willingness to take a polygraph exam.
  • High school diploma or GED with 7+ years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years of relevant experience.
