Lead Central Service Technician
Responsibilities:
The Lead Central Service Technician is responsible for the supervision of operations during the reprocessing of all sterile and non-sterile materials/supplies, instruments, and equipment for surgery and other hospital units. Independently run the department on off-shifts and week-ends or in the absence of the manager.Orients new hires. Maintains the schedule and daily assignments for their shift. Assists in reduction of supply and instrument costs. He/she is responsible for manual cleaning and decontamination; operating the mechanical washers and sonic units; testing autoclaves for efficiency and maintaining compliance records.
Responsible for coordinating SPD/OR projects and effectively communicates with the Surgical Supply Coordinator. He/she will be in charge of the recall process as needed. As a certified Lead Central Service Technician, the lead technician will also assist in the education training and evaluation process of other staff (e.g., new hires) with respect to quality assurance, performance improvement, and departmental compliance.
Essential Functions:
- The Lead Central Service Technician monitors daily operations of and assume responsibility for assigned shift in the SPD Department.
- Independently run the department on off-shifts and weekends or in the absence of the manager.
- Coordinates staffing, equipment, instrument, and supply resources to ensure effective and efficient department workflow between and within shifts.
- Creates schedules and coordinate daily assignments of Central Service Technicians ensuring the duties of all assignments are accounted for and that technicians are rotated according to department needs, training, and competency requirements.
- Assesses and troubleshoots safety, instrument, and equipment issues.
- Coordinates instrument needs list with the OR
- Acts as a liaison between SPD and OR, coordinating SPD/OR projects and effectively communicating with the Surgical Supply Coordinator
- Helps in reducing supply and instrument costs
- Organizes and stores department records in accordance with record retention policies
- Adheres to best practice by following all regulatory, federal, and state guidelines. AAMI, AORN, Joint Commission
Schedule: Monday- Friday 2:30 pm-11:00 pm
Qualifications:
Education and Experience: High School Diploma/GED, required
And Over 3 years to 5 years’ experience as Central Service Technician or related position, required
Licenses and Certifications: HSPA CRCST certification required, Upon hire, required
