Team Leader - Transmission Protection

Overview:
This position is responsible for front-line supervision and direction of personnel, contractors, processes, and resources associated with transmission system protection activities.
Responsibilities:
- Provides formal supervision of transmission system protection technicians (employee and contract), including work assignments, technical direction, performance management, and employee development.
- Directs and oversees all facets of the company’s transmission protection testing and maintenance programs in accordance with applicable compliance standards, including relays, DC control circuitry, communication systems, station batteries, and instrument transformers.
- Develops resource strategies, budget recommendations, and business plans in support of short and long-term capital projects and business objectives.
- Implements processes to ensure that records and historical data are properly tracked and maintained, and that data is effectively reviewed and analyzed.
- Reviews periodic budget reports and adjusts work plan to conform to the operational plan established for the section.
- Ensures that standard work procedures and processes are up to date and that all employees are properly trained.
- Coordinates and reviews the results of performance testing programs for equipment and systems to establish and refine best practices.
- Assists Engineering and/or Procurement Services in developing specifications, qualifying vendors, evaluating bids etc. for major equipment purchases, contracts and services needed by the group.
- Supports Cascade work management processes in order to track work orders, store equipment data and maintenance history to ensure reliable, cost effective electric service.
- Issues outage requests for high voltage equipment when necessary to perform maintenance or testing, ensuring that the work can and will be performed safely.
- Provides employee development opportunities through periodic job performance reviews and progress assessments and a wide variety of on-the-job training assignments. Coordinates with other Company work groups (Generation, Transmission, Distribution etc.) in order to provide assistance with substation maintenance activities.
- Conducts accident investigations and generates reports and recommendations.

Qualifications:
Education
Associate’s Degree in Electrical Technology or applicable field.
Experience
Minimum of five years of work experience.
Must have demonstrated a thorough knowledge of directly applicable transmission protection and relay experience as well as a comprehensive knowledge of electrical substation operations and maintenance and testing including transformers and circuit breakers, instrumentation, protection and control systems as well as procedures, materials and equipment utilized in the construction and maintenance of this equipment.
Must have excellent interpersonal and team building skills and above average planning, organizing and communication skills and demonstrated ability to act in a leadership capacity.
Licensure / Other Qualifications
A valid driver’s license is required to perform this job.

Preferred QualificationsPrevious supervisory experience.
Proficient in the use of computers and software including word processing, spreadsheets, database management and report generation, SC&M software systems, and corporate information systems.
Work Conditions
Normal office environment with frequent field visits involving exposure to weather extremes, uneven terrain, and proximity to high-voltages.
Physical Effort
Work routinely requires walking and climbing of stairs and ladders.
