Department/Organization: 208108 - CCHS Social Work

Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm; limited evenings/weekends

Job Summary: The Social Worker I plans, coordinates, and delivers low-complexity clinical services to clients under moderate supervision.

Additional Department Summary: Provides social services to clients, including assessment and consultation, crisis intervention, family support, patient education, referrals, and other relevant clinical services. Supports case management activities at University Medical Center (UMC), including full-spectrum outpatient care to residents and communities in west Alabama.

Oversees and coordinates Medication Assistance Program for UMC, which serves patients who cannot afford necessary medications. Communicates and collaborates with pharmaceutical companies, distributors, and insurers to source affordable prescription options for patients.

Assists with development and delivery of a robust field education curriculum to social work students. Assists with teaching students from multiple ancillary health programs, including but not limited medicine (undergraduate and graduate), pharmacy, psychology, and nutrition.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in Social Work and some social work experience. Licensed Social Worker (LSW) by the State of Alabama; OR, license eligible to practice social work in the State of Alabama and the ability to obtain licensure within one (1) year from date of hire.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.

Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.

Skills and Knowledge: Strong organizational and program support skills with knowledge in the areas of behavioral health and social services. Demonstrated skills in clinical decision-making. Ability to exercise discretion, diplomacy, and tact in patient/staff interactions; willingness to learn and consistently deliver patient-centered high-quality, customer-friendly service.

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of protected health information and follow HIPAA and/or FERPA regulations at all times.

Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic setting. Ability to cope with stressful conditions. Ability to demonstrate tact, versatility, and adaptability. Ability to demonstrate a high degree of self-motivation and directional initiative. Skill in exercising initiative, judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making.
Skill in organizing work to achieve department goals and objectives. Efficient and accurate computer and data entry skills. Working knowledge of standard office software applications, including Microsoft Office and basic data platforms. Ability to create and manage spreadsheets, databases, and other tools to tracking progress toward program goals.

Ability to work a flexible schedule.

Preferred Qualifications: Current licensure with the Alabama State Board of Social Work Examiners at the LMSW level or higher. Experience with Electronic Medical Record systems.
