Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, cash management, banking, investments, accounts payable/receivable, donations, and grant funding.
  • Develop, document, implement, and maintain accounting and financial procedures and policies.
  • Ensure timely completion of month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Reconcile all asset and liability accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Maintain payroll and accrual accounting.
  • Coordinate year-end financial statement audits and 401(k) audits, providing comprehensive support to auditors.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, offering professional development and guidance.
  • Continuously monitor and upgrade accounting systems and procedures to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
  • Prepare and review year-to-date departmental budget reports and communicate with department heads monthly.
  • Collaborate with the COO and CEO on strategic financial planning for both ongoing and new initiatives.
  • Lead data collection and assist the COO with annual budget preparation.
  • Analyze financial data, prepare comprehensive reports, and generate financial projections.
Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities
  • Master’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or a related field (CPA preferred).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams).
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, FASB principles, and government accounting policies.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to set and juggle priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with a focus on collaboration and superior customer service.
  • Patient, flexible, and adaptable in working with diverse constituencies.
  • Creative problem-solver with a proactive approach to process improvements and identifying opportunities.
  • 5+ years of experience in a senior financial position, preferably in a complex nonprofit organization with multiple funding sources.
  • Experience with nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, and reporting.
  • Familiarity with ERP platforms
