Hours: 40 hours/week (5 x 8-hour shifts)
Job Summary:The Pathology Assistant assists the pathologist with surgical specimens and related duties. Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting in the selection, preparation, and dissection of surgical tissue sections for examination.
- Ensuring accuracy of specimen information and gross descriptions.
- Preparing tissue sections for intraoperative consultations (frozen sections).
- Procuring fresh tissue samples for biorepository and ancillary studies.
- Utilizing equipment for imaging and maintaining cleanliness.
- Supporting post-mortem examinations and documentation.
Requirements:
- Experience: Minimum 10 years in pathology; must have a Pathology Assistant degree or 5+ years of experience with complex specimens. Frozen section experience preferred.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree from a NAACLS accredited program in Health Sciences or a related biological discipline; Master’s degree preferred.
- Certifications: ASCP certification as a Pathology Assistant required.
