Associate Director – Logistics Strategic Initiatives

Position Overview:

The Associate Director, Logistics Strategic Initiatives will oversee the timely execution and implementation of the initiatives outlined in the Global Logistics Strategy Roadmap, ensuring the delivery of measurable results aligned with Vertex’s vision of Logistics Operational excellence.

This role requires a highly motivated and experienced individual to manage cross-functional coordination, track initiative progress, address timeline risks, and drive the success of strategic goals in a high-complex matrixed organization. This role is essential to Vertex’s growth and commitment to delivering exceptional logistics solutions in the Global space.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Program Oversight and Reporting
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive reporting frameworks to monitor initiative progress, milestones, and outcomes.
  • Provide regular updates to senior leadership and stakeholders, highlighting achievements, potential risks, and required interventions.
  1. Risk Identification and Mitigation
  • Proactively identify timeline risks and delays, analyzing their downstream impacts on interdependent initiatives.
  • Escalate significant risks and propose mitigation strategies to maintain program momentum.
  1. Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Act as the central liaison among internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders to ensure alignment on project goals and deliverables.
  • Coordinate logistics strategy implementation across Logistics Network Design, Logistics Systems & Performance, Temperature Controlled Logistics, and Logistics Operations.
  • Supports development and maintenance of Logistics roles & responsibilities matrix in alignment with the Logistics Leadership Team.
  1. Strategic Roadmap Management
  • Drive adherence to the strategic roadmap timelines, resolving conflicts and addressing interdependencies across multiple initiatives.
  • Ensure all deliverables align with Global Logistics strategic pillars goals, and align with key strategy development principles around Processes, People, Systems/Technology, etc.
  1. Process and System Optimization
  • Support process improvement initiatives to streamline operations and operations enhance efficiency.
  • Oversee systems integration projects, including the implementation of tools like Oracle OPM, OTM, and Supply Chain orchestration systems and ensure compatibility with logistics operations.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven expertise in program and project management within logistics, supply chain, or related industries.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management abilities to ensure alignment across diverse teams and priorities.
  • Demonstrated experience with risk management, including identifying, assessing, and mitigating project delays and conflicts.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully plan and optimize all resources of a group or function
  • (budgets, staff, technology, succession planning, etc.) for advancement of all goals and objectives.
  • Strong analytical skills to understand logistics & supply chain IT systems (e.g., Oracle OPM, OTM) and ensure their successful integration.
  • Track record of managing large-scale strategic initiatives with multiple dependencies and delivering measurable outcomes.
  • Proficiency in program management tools (e.g., Smartsheet, MS Project, Jira) and reporting software.
  • BA/BS Degree minimum or 15+ years experience in the absence of a degree.

Preferred Background:

  • Familiarity with Global Logistics or pharmaceutical Supply Chains, particularly within high-complexity and regulated environments.
  • Understanding of network design, supplier onboarding, and carrier processes in logistics operations.
  • Experience with systems integration and automation initiatives in logistics environments.
  • Knowledge of governance models, performance metrics, and tools to track progress across international logistics operations.

Pay Range:

$115-$125/HR Dependent upon experience
