Large utility is looking for a Field Engineering Tech Analyst in Detroit, MI. It's a hybrid role. This role involves developing and applying standards for natural gas distribution systems, supporting construction teams in the field, managing GIS/GPS data, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations.

responsibilities:

  • Develop and apply standards and materials for natural gas distribution systems.
  • Communicate technical standards and directions to engineers and operations.
  • Support construction teams in the field and ensure projects align with plan and budget.
  • Approve or assist with in-field changes during construction.
  • Collect as-installed gas asset information using GPS and manage data via GIS applications.
  • Research and understand industry trends (GIS, GPS, construction techniques).
  • Lead or assist with engineering construction projects, including design, inspections, system planning, and permits.
  • Maintain documentation processes related to integrated systems and GIS/GPS technologies.
  • Perform research and development to update engineering and construction standards.
  • Participate in scope and design processes, project meetings, and closeout discussions.
  • Facilitate meetings, technology demonstrations, and pre-construction discussions.

Skills:

  • Technical understanding of natural gas distribution systems, construction, and safety practices.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Knowledge of GIS software (ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, ArcGIS Enterprise).
  • Familiarity with GPS antenna hardware and software.
  • Leadership, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical field with at least 2 years of relevant work experience or
  • Associate Degree with 6 years of relevant experience or
  • High School Diploma with 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Utility Locator Certification (preferred).
