The 3rd and 4th Grade Science Teacher is an integral part of the faculty at The Cathedral School. They are responsible for teaching science to third and fourth grades. The 3rd and 4th Grade Science Teacher collaborates closely with the other three members in the science department and the members of the technology department and works to create curriculum that is thorough, developmentally appropriate, and consistent.
The 3rd and 4th Grade Science Teacher is responsible for all classroom duties, both academic and organizational. These responsibilities include: planning and teaching curriculum, facilitating classroom management procedures, observing and assessing students’ progress, and communicating with parents, faculty, and administration.
The 3rd and 4th Grade Science Teacher integrates engineering, coding, robotics, and other project-based learning throughout the science curriculum. Experience with technology or STEAM is preferred.
The 3rd and 4th Grade Science Teacher prepares written comments for families twice a year. They attend faculty meetings and grade level meetings for specialists, and confer with colleagues regarding teaching and strategies. The 3rd and 4th Grade Science Teacher has lunch and bus duty responsibilities.
The 3rd and 4th Grade Science Teacher reports to the Head of Lower School, and they are responsible for completing a Meaningful Faculty Evaluation plan and working on these goals with the Division Head. They are responsible for ordering supplies for the classroom and maintaining a budget.In the event of a known absence, the teacher needs to leave appropriate lesson plans for the substitute teacher.
The 3rd and 4th Grade Science Teacher needs to be attuned to the needs of their students. In support of The Cathedral School's mission, they must be prepared to view curriculum and classroom and school culture through a lens focused on equity and justice.A nurturing and caring personality is essential. This is a full-time, 10-month role with a hiring range of $65,000 - $80,000.
