As the Veterans Specialist for the Staten Island Workforce1 Career Center (SIWF1CC), you will manage the overall process of recruitment and fulfillment of veterans and veteran spouses for open positions within the borough of Staten Island. The Veterans Specialist is responsible for sourcing for, engaging, and keeping a pipeline of veteran/military spouse candidates to fill the identified vacant positions.The Veterans Specialist will be expected to work closely with the partner team to build and manage relationships with local partner organizations with a veteran population, to act as a sourcing tool for candidates. Additionally, they will work with the sales team to identify high-interest sectors, employers, and positions for the current veteran pipeline.
The Veterans Specialist will be expected to take initiative in building new business relationships with businesses in Staten Island that employ veteran/veteran spouses within the following sectors: Retail Trade; Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services; Accommodation and Food Services; Information; Arts, Entertainment, and Recreation; Administrative; Waste Support Services; Finance and Insurance; Healthcare (non-clinical); and Social Assistance.

- Manage the overall recruitment process for veterans and their spouses for open positions, spanning a wide range of sectors and positions, from entry-level to high-level roles.
- Collaborate with sales, partner, and recruitment teams to determine effective recruitment strategies for diverse job openings, emphasizing inclusivity.
- Work closely with hiring clients to understand their specific needs, spanning across various industries, and promote the benefits of hiring veterans.
- Join sales calls or engage employers that are veteran-owned to sell on commitments for their open positions, emphasizing the advantages of a diverse workforce.
- Screen potential candidates for job openings, ensuring a diverse range of skill sets and backgrounds are considered.
- Attend job fairs, networking events, and information sessions to promote recruitment efforts for candidates from all backgrounds.
- Develop and maintain contacts at various partner organizations to source candidates from a wide array of sectors.
- Participate in monthly funder led Priority1 Veteran Team meetings and conference calls, contributing to efforts to support veterans across multiple job sectors and levels across the Workforce1 system.
- Proactively identify veterans and their military spouses during the intake process, career advisement, training-related services, and at recruitment events, ensuring priority of service is delivered for diverse candidates.
- Conduct one-on-one screenings with veterans and military spouses for job opportunities across the Workforce1 system, considering their varying skills and experience.
- Provide one-on-one assessments and advisement to all veterans and military spouses, considering their individual career goals and backgrounds.
- Collect and data entry all required information in accordance with funder policies, ensuring accurate records for veterans and military spouses.
- Track the jobseeker pipeline to better align business development for diverse employment opportunities, utilizing internal trackers and system databases.
- Analyze activities to determine what is successful and what isn't, independently creating and implementing new strategies and tactics to reach goals.
- Creatively source new pipelines of veterans and military spouses actively seeking employment opportunities.
- Effectively communicate with the sales team to best sell jobseekers' skills, ensuring that their military skills and transferable skills are properly conveyed to employers prior to any interviews, increasing their chances of successful hiring.
- Submit social media posting requests to promote diverse recruitment initiatives and attract veterans and their military spouses.
- Provide outreach to veteran community partner organizations to enhance collaboration and engagement to connect services to local veterans and military spouses.
- Host veteran-focused recruitment events that cater to the diverse needs and career aspirations of veterans.
- Perform regular reengagement services for veterans from different backgrounds.
- Post at least one job per week in VetConnectPro and refer candidates weekly, ensuring a variety of opportunities are available to veterans with diverse skills and experiences.
- Work towards achieving contractual goals of placing veterans and military spouses in Staten Island job opportunities, as defined by funder policy.
Qualifications:
Required Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Veteran Status or extensive recruitment experience working with the Veteran population required
- Minimum of two years of professional experience in recruiting, account management, or related business relationship management
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Proficiency in administrative tasks and tracking activities
- Creative sourcing abilities
- Sales and marketing skills preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, specifically Excel, Outlook, and Teams
- Exceptional interpersonal skills
