Job Overview*

We are seeking a professional for a Gunsmith III position to join the US Marshals Services. The ideal candidate will have to: *Duties*
  • Provide physical maintenance in all aspects of USMS firearms inventory and supplies. This includes such tasks as periodic inspection, routine service, on-site repair to the extent possible, and cleaning in accordance with original equipment manufacturer (OEM) standards.
  • Perform firearms inventory control per Agency policy. Support physical accountability procedures for weapons and ammunition inventory.
  • Maintain weapons vault, armory, ARMAG, and any locations occupied by the armory staff.
  • Maintain up-to-date maintenance logs for individual weapons.
  • Provide research and/or make recommendations on procurement of weapons, ammunition, targets, range supplies, scopes, optics, lasers, suppressors, marksmanship supplies and equipment.
  • Support agency-wide firearms program to provide necessary accountability of weapons and ammunition. Provide relevant/current information regarding training, industry practices, testing and evaluation, product demonstrations, recommendations, and new initiatives or policies.
  • Perform shipping services in accordance with site specific protocol.
  • Provide gunsmith services as limited by available equipment. Make recommendations for and assist in procurement of gunsmith tools and equipment, as allowed by physical space, unit budget, etc.
  • Keep range repair/maintenance kits stocked from available supplies.
  • Provide formal training to Agency members and law enforcement counterparts, including lesson plan development and multimedia classroom delivery, on topics such as operator level weapons maintenance.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the USMS Ammunition Supply Information Letter.
  • Be familiar with use of select less-than-lethal weapons (e.g., 40mm launcher) in inventory. Support less-than-lethal weapons maintenance schedule and upkeep. Attend select training in use of less-than-lethal weapons to instruct unit members in their maintenance.
  • Provide gunsmith/armorer services at select export training course or upon the request of the government.
  • Perform inventory control, install, and maintain serviceability of illumination devices, lasers, optics, scopes, night vision goggles, suppressors, etc. For items in need of factory USMS Performance Work Statement – Gunsmith 6 repair, coordinate with vendors, prepare shipment, track status, and return to service.
  • Observe and follow all applicable safety rules and procedures, including wearing required personal safety equipment. Instruct armory visitors on applicable safety protocol. Prepare and post proper signage and other notices regarding weapons and ammunition safety issues.
  • Travel to pertinent training courses and informational conferences throughout the United States at the request of the government.
  • Demonstrate well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Promptly prepare written reports, articles, updates, and other material as needed, or requested.
  • Provide support as needed to help assure overall unit readiness and efficiency.
  • Ability to adapt to an aggressive and rapidly changing training/deployment schedule.
  • Accept and carryout ongoing or periodic collateral projects as assigned.
  • Demonstrate professional, congenial ability to work with diverse unit members, Agency employees, representatives from other agencies, vendors, etc., at all experience levels and positions.
  • Be flexible in schedule. Some 40-hour work weeks may necessitate being with unit members on firing ranges outside of normal business hours.
  • Have working knowledge of computer hardware and applications.
*Qualifications*
  • U.S. citizen;
  • Valid driver's license;
  • College graduate or equivalent work experience;
  • Completion of military, law enforcement, or equivalent civilian Gunsmith school and minimum five (5) years of experience, or equivalent minimum ten (10) years of on-the-job experience; and
  • Excellent physical condition to include walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and carrying loads.
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $16.54 - $17.40 per hour
