We are looking for instructors who are exceptionally well-equipped to teach the following course: MIND, BODY, AND MACHINESLocation: Washington, DC – in-person only
Employment Type: Independent Contractor
Compensation: $34.72/hr
Additional Details: New U is a teaching university. All instructors are expected to offer office hours and provide academic advising to students enrolled in the class and mentor/coach 2-3 students per section once a month for 30 minutes. Instructors are not required to do research.
Required Qualifications: Master's Degree or substantial work experience in a relevant field. Ability to relate course content to real-world applications. Ability to tailor instruction and academic support to student needs. Willingness to learn, collaborate, and succeed in a fast-paced entrepreneurial culture.

Teaching and Other Requirements: This job requires teaching 1 section of an in-person class on campus in Washington, DC. Classes are held Monday – Thursday between 10 am – 3 pm, so you must be physically present on campus for classes within those days/times.You must also hold office hours and work with students as assigned by your direct supervisor.

Instructors teaching classes must ensure that the interdisciplinary nature of the courses is reflected in the syllabus, reading materials, homework assignments, exams, and class interactions.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Mind, Body, and Machines (4 CR): What is consciousness and where does it come from? What is the connection between mind and body, what do we mean when we talk about free will, rationality, and intelligence? Can we replicate free will, rationality, intelligence, and consciousness in machines?How do humans and machines act together in one system of distributed cognition? How do humans process information to make decisions in specific environments? These are some of the questions that this course seeks to explore from a philosophical and cognitive science perspective.
