Responsibilities:

Under the general supervision of the Security Manager, the Security Officer provides a uniform security presence to protect staff, patients, visitors, buildings, and assets, ensuring that all hospital property is secure. The Security Officer is responsible for patrolling and monitoring hospital premises to promote a safe environment, while prohibiting illegal and/or inappropriate behaviors.

Essential Functions:

  • The Security Officer patrols the buildings and premises conducting routine visual inspections to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and intrusion within assigned zones to maintain a safe and secure environment.
  • Monitors the conduct of visitors on premises; confronts unauthorized persons for questioning as needed; secures weapons and contraband from assigned zones.
  • Responds to and assesses emergency situations such as accidents and injuries, crimes, in progress events, and safety hazards, resolving situations by following established training, policies and procedures, including de-escalation and restraint techniques, and acts as liaison with local law enforcement if needed.
  • Employs all necessary equipment to include Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during situations that are deemed unsafe and during interactions with precaution patients.
  • Creates, maintains, and enforces the Grand View Health Badge Credentialing System.
  • Escorts personnel and visitors to parking lots and hospital buildings and performs other transport duties as needed.
  • Maintains records, prepares clear factual incident reports and other documents pertinent to safety and security activities and attends hearings as needed.
  • Performs all operations relating to security command, such as monitoring surveillance cameras, answering the phone, monitoring communications over the radio, dispatching incidents, contacting resources, completion of the Call Log, alarm monitoring and dispatch, monitoring various systems, receiving and securing deposits.
  • Performs hazard, accident, & inspection reporting activities as part of the Hospital’s Safety Program and participates in a variety of activities associated with the department’s Quality Assurance Program in order to provide for a safe and secure work environment.
  • Secures patient valuables and maintains facilities lost and found property system per policy.
  • Operates Grand View Health Security vehicles in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code.
  • Attends meetings and educational programs as assigned while remaining current on all required training courses.

Schedule: One 8-hour shift a week, either Saturday or Sunday.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma/GED required.

Licenses and Certifications: Active PA Driver's License required upon hire.
