Quality Specialist

The primary responsibility will be to ensure services are provided by the Terminal in accordance with customer, regulatory and CTI requirements for safe transportation and handling.
The position will assist with and/or lead safety and quality root cause investigations, as well as analyze trending. The individual in this role will regularly interact with and train operators. The candidate will act as a technical resource for operations for investigating and resolving any operational opportunities or audit exceptions.The position will assist with measuring device calibrations as well as assist and/or perform audits. The individual in this role will participate in cross-functional teams to define, evaluate and improve the quality management system.
This position regularly interacts with all levels of operations including leadership. The candidate will have regular contact with customers, regulatory agencies and other CGI departments. The individual in this role may also be called upon to perform additional functions that are deemed necessary by management.
JOB EXPECTATIONS/DUTIES- Perform, participate and/or lead root cause investigations; analyze trending of such investigations.
- Assist with overall development, continuous improvement and administration of operations’ training.
- Assist with overall continuous improvement and administration of the quality management system.
- Participate in external audits of customer and regulatory agencies, as needed.
- Act as a liaison for customers and regulatory agencies.
- Perform in-process, final quality control inspections and/or internal audits.
- Perform and participate in analyzing trends related to tank car inspections.
- Provide support to operations e.g. calibration of measuring devices, day-to-day operations, etc., as needed.
- Wear proper PPE, regardless of weather conditions, as required by the product being handled. Personal Protective Equipment may include all or a combination of a chemical suit, rubber boots, safety glasses, goggles, hard hat with face shield, chemical gloves, and/or respirator.
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required; College Degree is preferred.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in Operations, 2 years loading hazmat railcars is preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of safety and quality procedures.
- Extensive knowledge of truck and tank car anatomy preferred.
- Ability to read manual measuring devices and calculate fractions.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to simplify or modify complex technical information as needed to communicate orally or in writing to non-technical staff or customers.
- Ability to work well with others in a positive environment.
- Ability to perform high level root cause analysis and investigation.
- Ability to perform training on an individual or group basis.
- Ability to build effective relationships.
- Ability to work with minimal direct supervision.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.'
- Proficient in MS Office suite.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, work on top of and under tank trucks and tank cars, and may occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. The individual must have tolerance for exposure to all weather conditions such as heat, cold, wind, and rain and off-shift work schedules. Travel will be required locally, and on occasion regionally. Off-shift work may be required to fulfill position requirements.
