We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Hardware Test Engineer to join our Hardware testing team. In this role, you will ensure the quality, reliability, and functionality of materials, hardware components, and systems. You will design and execute comprehensive test plans, troubleshoot issues, and work closely with cross-functional teams across the US and Oulu, Finland to deliver high-quality products.
What you’ll do:
Test Planning & Execution:
- Design, develop, and implement comprehensive test plans and procedures to validate hardware designs, with a focus on hands-on execution of tests and detailed reporting of results.
- Conduct functional, reliability, performance, and stress testing of materials and hardware systems, including boards, modules, and integrated systems.
Test Equipment & Tools:
- Utilize test equipment such as microscope, multimeters, tensile frames, and scratch testers.
- Design and fabricate simple test fixtures as needed to conduct testing.
Documentation & Analysis:
- Create and maintain detailed test documentation, including test reports, bug reports, and testing protocols.
- Perform root cause analysis and propose corrective actions for hardware defects.
Collaboration & Review:
- Collaborate closely with hardware design engineers to identify, analyze, and resolve hardware issues.
- Participate in design reviews and provide input on manufacturability, testability, and quality.
Reliability Testing:
- Develop and execute detailed validation and reliability test strategies and methods.
- Conduct mechanical, environmental, and material testing, including Mechanical Stress Tests, Shock/Drop/Vibration Testing, and Environmental Testing.
Automation & Continuous Improvement:
- Work on automating test processes using scripting languages and tools when possible
- Stay up-to-date with new testing tools, technologies, and trends in hardware engineering.
External Coordination:
- Work with external labs to coordinate required testing.
- Ensure the HW test lab and equipment are maintained and organized.
This is an on-site role located in our San Diego, California office.
Requirements
Experience:
- 5+ years of hands on experience with hardware testing
- Proven experience in planning, implementing, and executing reliability testing for consumer electronics products.
- Experience performing Mechanical Stress Tests, Shock/Drop/Vibration Testing, and Environmental Testing.
- Good debugging skills.
Skills:
- Strong problem-solving skills and an analytical mindset.
- Independent and proactive working style.
- Collaborative, "let's get things done" attitude.
- Ability to manage and execute R&D testing from electronics components to system-level testing.
Technical Knowledge:
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory requirements for hardware products.
- Experience in developing test plans, processes, and procedures for subcontracted testing

These ranges may be modified in the future.
- San Diego Compensation Range: $150,000 - $187,000
