SENIOR VIDEOGRAPHER

Location: Washington, DC (Not Remote Eligible)

HOW YOU WILL IMPACT THE BIG PICTURE:

The Senior Videographer covers EWTN News Nightly's daily coverage, is based in the field at the U.S. Capitol and is responsible for shooting the nightly Capitol Hill live or live-to-tape segment. This position also manages the EWTN News videographers and is responsible for overseeing day-to-day and long-term coverage of Capitol Hill, White House, and field videography for news programming based in Washington, D.C.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
  • Directly manage, train, and develop Videographer staff, ensuring the highest quality production possible.
  • Serve as primary videographer to support the Capitol Hill reporting team to include general assignment, political, and feature news stories; perform basic editing of packages.
  • Professionally light reporters and guests; keep up with changing trends and creative options; operate live shots and streaming video equipment like LiveU.
  • Schedule videographers to serve EWTN News Nightly, EWTN News in Depth, EWTN Pro-Life Weekly, and other shows as necessary.
  • Collaborate with producers and executive producers to meet production needs of individual shows.
  • Develop and maintain a strong list of freelance videographers for field productions and to cover for the in-house team.
  • Assist the Operations Manager and Engineering Manager with managing and maintaining field production equipment, including company vehicles; drives and ENN crew vehicles.
  • Support the production team with live studio tapings, as needed.
ABOUT YOU:
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of broadcast news field experience as a videographer, with at least 2 years of experience working as a team lead or in a management role.
  • You take a genuine interest in mentoring, developing, and assessing videographer skills for direct reports.
  • Demonstrated photography skills in a multi-media newsroom with a strong working knowledge of location lighting techniques.
  • Possess a working knowledge of the Catholic faith and a genuine affinity for EWTN's mission.
  • Tech savvy and well informed about the latest digital and linear broadcast technology.
  • Prior experience working in Avid Media Composer or comparable professional editing systems for field editing and working with multiple tape formats.
  • Ability to pass a White House and Capitol Hill background check and maintain credentials is required.
  • Possess a valid State-issued driver's license and safe driving record with ability to drive an EWTN vehicle daily to and from sites.
  • Able to lift and carry broadcast equipment up to 45 pounds and successfully function as a member of the office's "Essential Team", including during inclement weather; flexibility on work schedule; some nights and weekends will be required; you are able to travel domestically and internationally periodically in consideration of breaking news and special events as needed.
  • Have prior experience working with control room equipment and are proficient working with LiveU or a similar platform.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Prior experience managing remote/field staff is preferred.
  • Ability to edit in-studio and in the field is strongly preferred; will be requested as a learned skill for basic field editing.
