Physical Therapist

Place of Performance: Syracuse, NY

Specific Tasks:
Provide musculoskeletal injury care, utilizing approved supplemental clinical privileges including the ordering of imaging studies, laboratory tests, SWsic pharmaceuticals, and referrals to specialty providers as indicated.

Serve as the onsite Injury Manager (IM) for the assigned unit tasked with coordinating operator medical care needs to include directly assisting the injured operators interactions with Tricare for medical referrals or military medical treatment facility (MTF).

Serve as the onsite IM for managing the metrics related to unit injury trends.
Participate in periodic meetings to review the care provided to the TACP. Identify opportunities for improvement in prevention and care strategies.
Serve as an advisor to the unit High Performance Optimization (HPO) Manager in matters related to injury prevention, sports medicine, and rehabilitation.
Serve as an advisor to the unit HPO Manager for administrative matters, purchasing of supplies and equipment and supplemental fiscal requests.
Conduct equipment, product, and literature reviews to ensure the HPO stays current with the provision of care.
Provide input for the development and utilization of relevant data collection strategies.
Conduct peer (record) reviews for the HPO staff as directed.
Conduct the collection and reporting of workload data as requested by the unit HPO Manager.
Assist the unit HPO Manager in developing and updating criteria-SWsed job descriptions and performance standards.
Assist with the preparation of short and long-term fiscal plans.
Develop and promulgate training opportunities for the HPO staff to enhance career development, potential for advancement and to further professional expertise.
Ensure safe and effective operation of equipment used for patient care and contribute to a safe working environment.
Attend annual required training in accordance with guiding instructions. Commands will allow for attendance at necessary conferences or courses to complete continuing education units required to maintain certification.
Document care in the operators Electronic Health Record via the Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA) or system directed by the 194th Medical Group.
Maintain a current file on all personnel seeking treatment and increasing their performance so they can track their progress. Provide copies of all required documentation to the unit Independent Duty Medical Technician (IDMT).
Maintain/modify software tracking system(s) as needed to properly track the assessment, injuries, and performance of operators.
Maintain at least two copies of files of operators in separate locations.

Develop notional Fly Away HPO kits (suggested equipment/training plans) to preserve operator performance while deployed using available unit resources.

Will meet with unit leadership quarterly to:
  1. Learn unit opportunities for training, education, and bridging sessions.
  2. Identify unit-specific HPO requirements and long-term objectives based on the units specific mission requirements.
  3. Identify unit-specific requirements for HPO reporting, e.g., metrics.
  4. Integrate/cross-talk with ANG/ A3J HPO program manager for best practices.
  5. Identify shortfalls in equipment and supplies.
  6. Protect personal information IAW Privacy Act.
  7. Identify HPO equipment capability gaps.
  8. Coordinate with squadron leadership to ensure a seamless, rapid, and effective return to peak performance for an injured/degraded operator.
Perform Individual Physical and Mental Performance Assessments. In coordination with unit leadership, identify and select a series of physical and mental assessments that will efficiently assess each operator while not requiring an undue amount of time.

Establish a schedule that provides all available operators the opportunity to be assessed.

Complete initial assessment of at least 50% of available operators within the first 6 months of the HPO and 90% within the first year.
Perform follow-up assessments every 12 months.
Conduct analysis of assessment results both individually and collectively for the unit.
Perform regular individual feedback sessions with operators to guide the development of their peak performance.

Provide quarterly reports to unit leadership and the unit HPO Program Manager including the following information:
  1. Any issues/concerns related to the HPO that require leadership attention.
  2. Provide any recommendations to optimize services and better support the development of operators peak performance.

Provide an injury report quarterly identifying individual operator injuries and rehab strategies.

Provide an equipment status report quarterly defining the status of equipment and issues to include:
  1. Stating if any equipment is non-mission capable.
  2. Stating any new requirements for additional equipment and providing required documentation for squadron purchase.

Education: Shall possess a Masters or Doctorate degree in physical therapy from a credentialed college or university.

License/Certification:
Valid state physical therapy license with board certification through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) as either an Orthopedic or Sports Clinical Specialist (O/SCS).

It is highly preferred that you shall have additional credentials as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association or as a Sports Performance Coach through the United States of America Weightlifting Association (USAWA).

Shall maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Experience:
Shall have a demonstrated history of performing manual therapy, trigger point dry needling, Graston Technique soft tissue mobilization and functional taping.
Shall have a minimum of three years of experience working with athletes.
Shall have demonstrated history in developing and delivering educational content related to Human Performance Optimization.
Shall be required to receive and maintain clinical practice privileges. Previous experience working with Tricare Medical system is highly desired.

Shall be capable of meeting physical demands of training with TACP including the ability to hike over rough terrain and function in austere environments to observe TACP training evolutions, the ability to assist with strength and conditioning testing and training protocols, and the ability to lift and manipulate loads or weights up to 20 kilograms.
