Project Manager - University Facilities - San Diego

Overview:

Cordoba is seeking a qualified project manager to assist in the management of private university projects involving laboratory renovations, space conversions, deferred maintenance projects, and closeout of similar projects. The right individual will be able to manage multiple projects of varying values simultaneously at different stages of the project life cycle.

Evaluation of existing facilities, development of scope, end-user engagement, and successful turnover to M&O will be key for the successful candidate. Assignment is full-time in person in the Pasadena, CA area, start date is ASAP.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees staff in the maintenance and distribution of current contract plans and specifications.
  • Confirms contractors’ maintenance of record drawings prior to monthly progress payments to the Contractor.
  • Makes field checks on construction, demolition, rehabilitation, alteration addition or repair projects to determine compliance with job specifications, plans established CIT standards, on layout and installation requirements.
  • Prepares written materials including correspondence, reports, procedures, and guidelines related to the project file maintenance and document control.
  • Reviews submittals for conformance to plans and specifications.
  • Assists in coordinating meetings between site administrators, CIT personnel and community representatives to organize construction plans from pre-construction to post-construction and closeout.
  • Prepares reports on project updates to site administrators and senior management to ensure coordination in timelines and construction schedules.
  • Maintains and distributes current contract plans and specifications.
  • Confirms Contractors maintenance of record drawings.
  • Supports or is able to lead project closeout.

Qualifications:

  • 10-15 years’ experience in Project/Construction Management of New Buildings, Facilities or School Construction and familiarity with relevant Public Codes. Candidates are required to have experience in managing capital projects through planning, design, jurisdictional approvals, environmental permitting, construction, and close-out. 5-7 years’ experience in school construction preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to take initiative and make sound decisions.
  • Experience on large higher education and lab research programs.
  • Experience with Oracle or similar PMIS systems.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Licensed professional, Certified Construction Manager (CCM) and/or Certified Design Build Institute of America (DBIA)
  • Experience utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM)
  • Experience in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified projects
  • Experience in Formal Construction Partnering and on-site QA/QC Supervision
  • Experience in Progressive Design Build or Design Build delivery method
  • Hazardous Materials Containment and Relocation
  • Utilities Coordination for Relocation with City Agencies
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Work experience in project planning and development.
  • Ability to independently manage all aspects of a project.
  • Ability to develop and control project scope.
  • Ability to develop and maintain project budgets.
  • Ability to develop and review project schedules.
  • Skilled in reviewing and coordinating the preparation of construction documents.
  • Ability to effectively facilitate project team and client meetings.
  • Ability to effectively negotiate and prepare change orders.
  • Ability to effectively monitor and coordinate construction activities with the various project stakeholders.
  • Ability to adapt and respond effectively to project issues and challenges.
  • Ability to set and manage project expectations.

Other position information:

  • Salary Range: $135,000 - $175,000 per year
  • Location: Pasadena, CA
  • Work Environment: 100% onsite
