About the Role
We’re looking for a board-certified, licensed physician with strong expertise in musculoskeletal and/or pain medicine to design and deliver new clinical services at Hinge Health. The Medical Director will remotely care for patients with musculoskeletal and chronic pain conditions, and over time will also hire and manage a team of physicians delivering patient care.The role will also be focused on program development, including developing clinical guidelines and overseeing program quality, as well as working closely with Product, Operations, and Legal teams to design new program functionality and workflows.
In addition, the Medical Director will work with our Clinical Research team on publications, provide clinical support to our physical therapists and health coaches, and manage our expert medical opinion program for patients considering musculoskeletal surgeries.
Other responsibilities may include serving on internal clinical committees, education and content oversight, and providing input into a broad range of product and technology development.

What You'll Accomplish- Develop new clinical programs in partnership with our Product and Operations teams
- Provide thought leadership and strategic thinking to guide program development
- Deliver excellent care for patients with acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions utilizing virtual visits and the Hinge Health app
- Develop clinical guidelines for diagnosing and managing musculoskeletal and pain conditions
- Hire and manage a team of musculoskeletal physicians performing high-value patient care
- Support our Clinical Research team to investigate outcomes and publish studies; good opportunities for authorship
- Assist our physical therapists and coaches with managing clinical escalations.
- Manage our Expert Medical Opinion program to ensure high-quality, efficient reports.
- Serve as physician representative on internal committees & workstreams (e.g. quality assurance, FDA, credentialing)
- Provide clinical input into the development of new product features and functionality (e.g. Enso, education, computer vision)
- Keep up to date on relevant MSK and digital health research, and disseminate information appropriately across the company
- Provide clinical input into Hinge Health’s research studies
- Represent Hinge Health in clinical audits from external organizations and assist with preparation
Hinge Health Hybrid Model
We believe that remote work and in-person work have their own advantages and disadvantages, and we want to be able to leverage the best of both worlds. This role is based out of our San Francisco office and requires in-office work 3 days/week.
Qualificatons:
Qualifications- MD or DO with 5+ years clinical experience in musculoskeletal care or pain management, well-versed in the biopsychosocial approach
- Board-certified in MSK-related specialty (PM&R, orthopedic surgery, sports / pain / spine / occupational medicine or similar)
- Active medical license in 1 or more states
- Background or expertise in program development, product design and/or technology innovation
- Experience working within a technology organization, including product management, design and engineering
- Understanding of the digital health industry, including employers, health plans (commercial and Medicare), consultants and vendors
- Knowledge of value-based care and at-risk contracting models
- Strong relationships with thought leaders across the health industry
- Excellent research skills and publication record
- Excellent oral presentation and interpersonal skills with both commercial and clinical audiences
- Expertise in physician quality assessment
This position will have an annual salary, plus equity and benefits. Please note the annual salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, and competencies. The annual salary range for this position is $272,000-$373,000.
