Department Overview:

The Department of Molecular and Medical Genetics has an immediate opening for a full-time (1.0 FTE) clinical genetic counselor specializing in cancer genetics. The selected candidate will primarily be involved in adult cancer genetic counseling services at our NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The counselor may also participate in additional specialty clinics, including pediatric oncology genetics and general pediatric genetics. Genetics consults are conducted both in-person and via telehealth. The counselor will be responsible for overall coordination of patient care including intake, assessment, counseling, test coordination, and follow-up.

In addition to direct patient care, our clinical genetic counselors serve a primary role in education to medical trainees, genetic counseling students, and other healthcare providers. Participation in research and publication is also encouraged.

Function/Duties of Position:

  • Provides pre- and/or post-test genetic counseling to patients and families at-risk of having or known to have an inherited cancer predisposition syndrome
  • Coordinates genetic testing
  • Discusses genetic test result with patient and provider
  • Works with specialists to develop and implement care plan
  • Assists in maintaining databases
  • Reviews referrals received for cancer genetics clinic to determine appropriate scheduling
  • Attends multidisciplinary tumor boards
  • Serves a primary role in education to medical trainees, genetic counseling students and other health care providers
  • Publication is encouraged

Required Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of experience as a Genetic Counselor specializing in clinical cancer genetics;
  • ABGC Board Certified or Board Eligible;
  • Oregon state and Washington state genetic counseling licensure or eligible for licensure
