Staff Accountant

We are looking to hire a Staff Accountant in Troy, Virginia, 22974, United States. This role offers a contract to hire employment opportunity. As a Staff Accountant, you will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, including the preparation of financial reports, maintaining accounting controls, and advising management on financial actions.

Responsibilities:

• Research and analyze accounting data to provide financial information to management
• Compile and analyze account information to prepare asset, liability, and capital account entries
• Enter information in customer and vendor accounts to document financial transactions
• Analyze accounting options to recommend financial actions
• Prepare balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other reports to summarize the current financial status
• Audit documents to substantiate financial transactions
• Prepare, recommend, and implement policies and procedures to maintain accounting controls
• Coordinate activities and answer questions to guide accounting staff
• Collect and analyze account information to reconcile financial discrepancies
• Complete database backups to secure financial information
• Verify documentation and request disbursements to prepare payments
• Research and interpret accounting policy and regulations in accordance with GAAP
• Comply with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements, advise management on needed actions
• Collect, analyze, and summarize account information and trends to prepare special financial reports
• Keep financial information confidential to maintain customer confidence and protect operations
• Assist team members as needed to complete basic financial transactions such as invoicing, AR management, and AP management. • Must possess a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
• Proficiency in using accounting software such as NetSuite, Oracle, QuickBooks, and SAP
• Profound experience in accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR)
• Ability to perform bank reconciliations and maintain the general ledger
• Skills in preparing journal entries and performing month-end close procedures
• Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Willingness to continue professional development and stay updated on current accounting trends and regulations.
