The Financial Grants Research Administrator will operate both independently and within a team framework to manage and administer our client's financial activities, resources, and special programs, primarily relating to faculty-managed funds.
This role serves as a key resource for faculty members, researchers, and other team members regarding matters related to sponsored research administration.
Main Responsibilities:
- Manage a comprehensive portfolio of faculty-controlled funds, covering initial proposal development, submission, renewal/extension, to closeout. Funding sources may include federal, industry, internal, foundation, and individual donor funds. The awards can cover lab-based bench and computational research, fellowships (graduate students and postdocs), training grants, and discretionary funds.
- Act as the initial point of contact to guide and educate faculty and researchers on the complete scope of research administration, such as proposal development and submission, personnel allocations, indirect costs, cost-sharing and under-recovery, sub-awards, effort certification and vacation tracking, company policies and systems, and federal regulations.
- Pre-award responsibilities will encompass preparing and submitting research proposals and pre- and post-doctoral fellowship applications, reviewing solicitations and determining required components, developing budget and budget justification, coordinating the collection of required materials, maintaining PI's other support information, and serving as liaison with other administrators on multi-unit, multi-PI, and sub-recipient proposals.
- Post-award duties will involve account set-up and extension, managing sponsor billing agreements and invoice payments, monitoring financial performance to ensure compliance with internal research administration policies and sponsor policies, and ensuring consistency with approved award budget.
- Participate in training and mentoring financial assistants and lab administrative assistants on financial systems, purchasing, credit card, travel, and payroll processes.
- Serve as a liaison and advocate with department and other internal departments, as well as external funding agencies.
- Stay current with changing internal and external policies and procedures, technologies, and recurring grant deadlines.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
- Minimum five years' experience in financial management, preferably in an academic environment
- Experience in pre- and post-award research administration and sponsored programs
- Experienced with NIH Grants
- Knowledge of standard federal regulations and major agency guidelines
- High-level proficiency with Excel and familiarity with other MS Office products
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Ability to manage a variety of tasks concurrently, research and resolve discrepancies, and work independently and as part of a team.
This position is onsite 3 days per week ad 2 from home!
