THE POSITION
Development Engineer, OESL Automotive USA LLC, Rochester Hills, MI:
Coordinate creation and release of 3D-modeling and CAE to develop vehicle systems design concepts, proposals and solutions based on customer requirements while adhering to design guidelines and customer specifications. Coordinate creation and release of 2D-drawings for automotive refrigerant and coolant lines to meet customer technical specifications, defining critical characteristics, standards, dimensions and drawing notes.Lead cross-functional teams to create project specific D-FMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) and drive all actions and updates as a result of the process. Create and drive Design and Product Validation Plans and oversee their completion to confirm product conformance with customer specification for automotive refrigerant and coolant lines.
Develop, review, and confirm feasibility for the design and customer technical specifications of automotive refrigerant and coolant lines, considering manufacturing process and supplier capabilities. Develop appropriate bill of materials for complex assemblies while optimizing pricing for automotive refrigerant and coolant lines, defining the technical specification based on customer requirements and design guidelines.
Develop prototype plan and coordinate prototype construction of automotive refrigerant and coolant lines for internal and customer samples, performing the timeline and assisting sample shop with parts procurement related to sourcing process of components.
Manage formal problem-solving activities related to design failures using A3 or 8D method with multiple cross function teams to determine root cause and define corrective actions.
Full time employment, Monday Friday, 40 hours per week. Telecommuting permitted up to 40% per week.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field and 2 years of engineering experience in the automotive industry.
Must have 2 years of experience in each of the following:
Utilizing APQP to develop, prototype, validate, release and launch products which meet automotive industry regulatory standards (including IATF and ISO); Applying IATF customer specific requirements to re-qualification audits; Utilizing CATIA V5 or Creo CAD or NX software to design automotive products; Utilizing software to manage design files, 3D models and drawings detailing automotive part materials and dimensions; Utilizing DFMEA/DRBFM (design/design review failure mode effects analysis) to design automotive parts that meet performance requirements; Interpreting data from CAE/FEA, including modal analysis to help guide robust design; Leading cross-functional teams in formal A3/8D problem solving activities to determine root cause and define corrective actions; Green belt six-sigma practices; and
Applying principles of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) to engineering drawings.
International & domestic travel required up to 10%.
