Postion Summary:
The Triage Nurse organizes and coordinates the intake/admission/triage process. The nurse will answer and process all calls within the practice based on the needs of the caller. The Triage Nurse reports to the Clinical Supervisor, Office Manager, and Operations Manager.

Responsibilities:
- Answers all calls and will either triage as needed or will receive referral inclusive of patient and insurance information based on provider contracts and staffing capacities.
- Receives orders from MD as needed and communicates changes in patient assessment to MD and communicates additional orders to staff as appropriate. Co-signs MD orders as needed in absence of Clinical Supervisors.
- Receives, organizes, and processes faxed information as appropriate.
- Documents all calls and interventions/actions in messaging systems or charts.
- For a triage call, conducts an initial telephone assessment of the patient using approved protocols as well as documentation from the medical record and discusses recommended action with the patient/patient representative.
- Receives and/or generates MD orders and communicates changes to all appropriate staff as needed.
- Communicates within office(s) as needed.
- Provides specific ICD-9 codes based on admitting/recertifying staff’s communication of assessment findings, if applicable.
- Maintains current knowledge of agency policies and procedures.
- Accurately uses software(s) to create and document in clinical record, process, and retrieve information to meet patient needs.
- Maintains current knowledge of compliance guidelines.
- Submits and follows up timely with necessary information for obtaining authorization of services to be provided.
- Adheres to all policies, procedures, objectives, and quality assessment programs as well as safety, environmental, and infection control standards in the performance of work duties.
- Attends meetings as required and participates on committees as needed.
- Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education:
Graduate of accredited school of nursing with diploma ADN, BSN, or MSN.
Minimum Experience:
Minimum of three (3) years of medical office triage experience preferred. Excellent Customer Service Skills required. Experience with Basic Microsoft Office preferred.
Licensure Requirement:
Valid Tennessee Nursing license.
