Rail Car Cleaner Purpose: Performs all aspects of cleaning rail-cars including interior cleaning, high pressure venting/purging, exterior washing, commodity sampling and commodity unloading. Performs repairs, changes, improvements and conversions to car parts and assemblies in compliance

with prescribed codes and specification in accordance with AAR and GATX standards and customer requirements.

Blast Operator Purpose: The primary function of the Blast Operator is to operate blasting equipment to remove scale, paint and other foreign substance from inside and /or outside of cars and other materials.

This position will be 2nd shift (2:00pm - 10:30pm, Monday-Friday).

Responsibilities:

Rail Car Cleaner Responsibilities:

  • Perform initial sampling gathering and measurement of the commodity, including initial opening procedures (man-way).
  • Position cars to cleaning positions using rope pullers.
  • Removes all excess commodity and materials from rail cars using various tools. Including handling of drums, and the ability to work in confined spaces using proper protective equipment.
  • Operate the automatic cleaning and stripping equipment to the tank cars by means of the man-way, vapor return lines and liquid return lines.
  • Inspect cleaned rail-cars to ensure that all cleaning conforms to correct procedures, including confined space entry and manual detailing.
  • Clean the interior and exterior of rail-cars by hydro-blasting.

Blast Operator Responsibilities:

  • Operates stationary blasting equipment to remove scale and other foreign substances from inside and/or outside of cars and other materials.
  • Removes foreign matter from grit.
  • Dismantles parts of machines to remove foreign matter when stopped up.
  • Makes valve adjustments and minor repairs to blasting equipment and checks proper gauge to ensure equipment is in good working order.
  • Cleans cars as required before and after blasting.

Responsibilities for Both:

  • Maintains all tools and equipment in working condition.
  • Communicate with supervisor as needed.
  • Keeps work area in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Comply with the established safety policies, support-continuing awareness for safety, and when possible recommend specific changes and improvements to health and safety policies and programs.

Qualifications:

Qualifications:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as IO instructions, FM instructions, work orders, and AAR Field Manual.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide two-digit numbers.
  • Ability to reason through and plan work details and procedures to obtain desired results.
  • Knowledgeable of rail-car repairs.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Basic computer knowledge and strong communication skills – experience.
  • Able to follow verbal and written instructions.

Physical Demand Requirements:

  • Must be able to stoop for extended periods and routinely move from kneeling to standing positions.
  • Must be able to perform overhead work for extended periods.
  • Must be able to safely lift (vertically) up to 51 pounds, regularly, and safely lift up to 85 pounds, occasionally, from the ground surface.
  • Must be able to push/pull (horizontally) up to 140 pounds of force.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and perform work at elevated heights.
  • Must be able to work in extreme temperature environments.
  • Must be able to physically enter confined space and work in enclosed environments.

The hourly rate for this position is $28.96 per hour.
