The Simon Kenton Council is delivering the Scouting program to nearly 9,000 youth in 19 counties in Central & Southern Ohio, and Northern Kentucky. We are the nation’s premier youth development program helping young people grow in character, leadership, citizenship, and conservation.
The Simon Kenton Council is one of 250 councils in the United States, and one of the largest. We achieve our goals with the help of 350 partner organizations and 4,200 trained adult volunteers.
Position Summary and Objective:
The Chief Development Officer is responsible for developing, managing, and executing an effective total financial development program to fund the Council. The position will be responsible for all donor relations including the identification, prospecting, solicitation, and cultivation of donors for all operating, capital, and endowment development appeals.

The Chief Development Officer will report to the CEO and will build and manage a team of development professionals.

Summary of Responsibilities:
  1. Identify, cultivate, and solicit volunteers and donors to achieve the Council’s annual total financial development goals including the annual campaign, special events, grants & foundations, and sponsorships.
  2. Develop and implement a plan to diversify operating revenue by raising new dollars annually to fund operational costs of Simon Kenton Council, including upgrading donors, aggressive identification and engagement of new corporate partners, grants and foundation requests, and the creation and oversight of Scouting affinity groups to identify and reengage the alumni base.
  3. Leads development department including fundraising, stewardship, marketing, public relations, government affairs, and communications. Creates marketing strategies that increase philanthropy and organizational awareness.
  4. Develop and support an endowment emphasis to spread awareness of planned giving, attract and cultivate donors and solicit outright cash gifts and deferred planned gifts to grow the endowment.
  5. Responsible for oversight of all Council fundraising events, including local community fundraising events and Council-wide events. Responsible for developing a long-term strategy for fundraising events.
  6. Develops a long-term comprehensive campaign to impact the Council’s properties allowing each property to be used to its fullest potential.
  7. Oversees the organizations CRM database and develop strategies to increase technology usage within organization.
Desired Traits:
  1. Five or more years of successful fundraising experience or relatable sales experience with a proven track-record of identifying, cultivating, and soliciting five and six-figure gifts.
  2. Has identified, developed, and fostered meaningful relationships with individuals from all walks of life and in various environments.
  3. Ability to network throughout the community and identify and cultivate individual and corporate major gift prospects.
  4. Tells compelling stories that appeal to donors on an emotional level and illustrates how the donor can help make a difference.
  5. Superb written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  6. Excellent time management skills.
  7. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  8. Significant staff leadership experience. Has built high performing teams and gets the best from every member.
  9. Brings fiscal management and budget development skills.
  10. Demonstrated mastery in the entire Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, and Power Point. Experience in Blackbaud CRM is a plus.
  11. An undergraduate degree from an accredited educational institution.
  12. Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) designation a plus.

Additionally, the Simon Kenton Council offers benefits to include major medical, prescription coverage, dental, vision, life-insurance, short and long-term disability, accidental death, a Match Savings program, and is eligible for 20 days of vacation.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $110,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
