We are seeking a skilled and adaptable Communications Specialist for a temporary, onsite position with our client. This role focuses on the development and execution of print and digital content, ensuring the institution’s messaging is cohesive, professional, and impactful across various channels.

The ideal candidate is a creative writer, organized communicator, and passionate storyteller with a knack for both short and long-form content creation.

Key Responsibilities:

Content Development for Print and Digital Channels
  • Write, edit, and proofread content for print and digital platforms, ensuring alignment with the institution's voice and brand guidelines
  • Collaborate with various departments (e.g., marketing, academic programs, and development) to create compelling assets
Research and Feature Writing (Magazine Content)
  • Conduct interviews, perform research, and write in-depth articles and copy for the quarterly magazine
  • Collaborate with the editorial team to manage the planning and production of the magazine
Monthly Digital Newsletters
  • Write and distribute concise, engaging e-newsletters on key updates, events, achievements, and news from the seminary
Publications
  • Develop and update catalogs, handbooks, brochures, and other institution-specific print materials
  • Ensure publications are accurate, formatted appropriately, and maintain brand consistency
Media Outreach and PR
  • Compose, edit, and distribute news releases using a content management system (CMS)
  • Manage media contact lists and ensure timely communication with press outlets
Social Media Management
  • Write and schedule engaging social media content for platforms including Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram
  • Monitor interaction and elevate the client’s presence across digital channels
Email Marketing Assistance
  • Compose and distribute e-blasts using the seminary’s Raiser's Edge CMS (similar to MailChimp)
  • Collaborate with email marketing stakeholders to ensure timely and effective communication for campaigns

Contract Length & Immediate Priority Areas:

  • This is a temporary, onsite position, with the potential for extension based on institutional needs
  • Initial focus areas will include social media content creation, monthly e-newsletters, and content development for publications. Magazine responsibilities may follow depending on the contract's timeframe

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field required
  • 1-3 years of experience in Communications and Marketing roles
  • Must have previous experience with AP Style
  • Proven experience in content writing, editing, and publication development, preferably in an academic or nonprofit setting
  • Strong familiarity with CMS platforms and email marketing tools like Raiser's Edge or MailChimp
  • Proficiency in managing social media channels, including creating and scheduling posts
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills with attention to detail and adherence to grammatical standards
  • Ability to conduct interviews and synthesize complex information into compelling content
  • Proven organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects with varying deadlines
  • Familiarity with seminary or higher education environments is a plus
