The Role:
The University of Texas at Austin is seeking to hire a Senior Project Manager with utilities infrastructure experience to serve within Planning, Design and Construction (PDC). The Senior Project Manager will provide professional project management and leadership for major Capital Improvement Program (CIP, > $10M TPC) projects at UT Austin for highly technical, mission critical, and sensitive projects related to power and thermal plants and utility distribution systems.Position may also support or be assigned minor projects (TPC $5 billion in major projects across the planning, design and construction phases, and this position is critical for the successful delivery of these projects. What You will be doing:
- Manage complex higher education academic, research, and healthcare projects across multiple campuses, including new construction, renovations, and infrastructure upgrades.
- Oversee project teams, coordinate design professionals, collaborate with campus partners, and administer contracts to meet budget, schedule, and reporting requirements.
- Lead planning, design, and execution of major capital projects, ensuring effective communication, coordination, and conflict resolution.
- Manage budgets, schedules, and procurement of design/construction services. Support project managers in consultant oversight and issue resolution.
- Advocate in contract negotiations, reviewing and approving design/construction agreements, bid documents, and financial submittals.
- Supervise or support construction activities, applying UT Austin Capital Planning and Construction controls to track progress, mitigate risks, and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Stay updated on relevant codes and regulations (e.g., IBC, NFPA 101, ADA, OSHA).
- Assist with pre-project planning, including Capital Improvement Plan preparation and approval processes.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Science, or related discipline.
- At least five (5) years of providing project management of design and construction activities for industrial or energy plant facilities, or utilities.
- 3 or more years of experience providing project management of capital projects with a Total Project Cost of $10M or more.
- Working knowledge of contract documents (plans, specifications).
- Experience negotiating construction contracts.
- Working knowledge of life safety and building codes including, NFPA 101, IBC, ASHRAE, Texas Accessibility Standards, and the Americans with Disabilities Act, among others.
- Experience using Excel, Microsoft Word, and scheduling software such as MS Project.

The anticipated annual salary for this position is $132,000 .
