Overview:

JOB SUMMARY

The Registered Respiratory Therapist/Pulmonary Function Technologist has a thorough knowledge and proficiency in the skills of adult (ages 18-65), geriatric (ages 66 and over) and occasionally adolescent (ages 12-17) respiratory care, where applicable.
The RRT/CPFT presents a pleasing and helpful manner to the patient, physicians, visitors, members of the department, and all other medical personnel. The RRT/CPFT supports and contributes to departmental and hospital objectives by functioning as lead therapist in all aspects of respiratory care.

The RRT/RPFT complies with local, state, and federal rules and regulations, and the requirements of accrediting bodies. The RRT/RPFT adheres to established policies and procedures of the department and the hospital.

Responsibilities:

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plans and administers aerosol and humidity therapy.
  • Plans and administers oxygen therapy.
  • Plans and administers aerosolized medication therapy.
  • Performs airway management.
  • Plans and administers incentive spirometry.
  • Performs quality control and quality assurance.
  • Plans, implements and manages bronchial hygiene protocol.
  • Plans and performs Chest Physiotherapy.
  • Performs as charge therapist.
  • Performs pulmonary function testing.
  • Performs metabolic testing.
  • Performs patient assessment.
  • Performs cardiac and pulmonary stress testing.
  • Assists in research.
  • Provides patient, family, hospital staff, and physician education.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Associate Degree in Respiratory Care or Cardiopulmonary Science or equivalent required
  • One (1) year clinical experience preferred
  • Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care and Mandatory Certificate issued by the Commonwealth of Kentucky
