The School of American Ballet (SAB) at Lincoln Center, founded by George Balanchine and Lincoln Kirstein, is the preeminent ballet school in the country. Our mission is to train professional dancers for careers in classical ballet. We provide the resources for a diverse pool of students to train at the highest level – with 15-25 a year going on to dance for New York City Ballet, our official but independent company, and other major ballet companies worldwide.SAB has a far-reaching impact on the art form and enriches the lives of each student who comes through our doors, over 800 annually, ages 6 to 18. SAB has approximately 85 part- and full-time employees and an operating budget of $17 million.
Position Overview
SAB seeks a Development Assistant, Special Events and Corporate Sponsorship to support the operations of a dynamic department. The Special Events and Corporate Sponsorship department raises over $2.2 million annually from three major fundraising events and an evolving corporate relations program.Special Events and Corporate Sponsorship also assist in planning several board and staff events throughout the year. The Development Assistant, Special Events and Corporate Sponsorship will provide administrative support for the daily running of the department.
This non-exempt position will report to the Senior Director of Special Events and Corporate Sponsorship.
Key Responsibilities- Efficiently and thoroughly manage the administrative needs of the Special Events and Corporate Sponsorship department
- Maintain donor information in database (Raiser’s Edge)
- Respond to donor inquiries in a timely and professional manner
- Process and reconcile income and expenses
- Acknowledge gifts bi-monthly
- Manage mailing lists, mailings, and eblasts
- Prepare meeting materials and coordinate meeting logistics
- Update and distribute proposals, reports, and general correspondence
- Perform prospect research
- Direct volunteers and interns as necessary
- Assist in the planning and production of SAB’s three fundraisers The Nutcracker Family Benefit, SAB Ball, and Workshop Performance Benefit
- Serve as the main point of contact and customer service representative for event donors, sponsors, and staff
- Track RSVPs and guest information
- Communicate directly with event leadership to personalize mailings, report on donations, and arrange event seating
- Construct and distribute email communications with lists generated from the database and event leadership’s contacts
- Coordinate with vendors to produce event collateral, including hard copy and electronic invitations, programs, posters, etc
- Oversee administration and distribution of all in-kind donations
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Advanced customer service skills plus strong administrative and organizational abilities, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Zoom and the capacity to learn and utilize fundraising databases and communications software. Experience with MailChimp and Raiser’s Edge is a plus.
- Must be detail-oriented, able to meet deadlines, and capable of prioritizing and managing multiple assignments in a busy environment.
- Possess superior interpersonal skills and work successfully with colleagues, donors, volunteers, and staff.
- Ability to be hands-on with all aspects of event preparations and logistics and able to lift 25 lbs.
- Competency for representing the institution well to the general public and funders.
- An interest in the performing arts, dance, and/or education is preferred.
- Some nights and weekends are required.
Benefits
The salary range is $45,000-48,000 commensurate with experience. This is a full-time, non-exempt position.
