Manufacturing Engineering Intern

What we’re building

Our vision is to electrify all waterborne vessels, and we're starting with electric water sport boats.

Gas boats dominate today’s marine industry not because of great product offerings but because of a lack of better alternatives. Boaters have grown accustomed to vehicles that feel stuck in the 1980s: unreliable, expensive, loud, noxious, and a nightmare to own and operate.

They’re also awful for the water and air they reside in.

By contrast, electric boats are superior in nearly every way: not only are they far more reliable and less costly to operate, but they’re also quieter, quicker, and cleaner, with no fumes or pollutants. However, they’ve been held back by both the technology and the talent to make them truly competitive with gas alternatives.

That’s Arc’s opportunity.

Using modern, aerospace- and automotive-inspired techniques, we’re building our hulls, batteries, cooling systems, firmware, and software together to deliver the next generation of watercraft.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Manufacturing Engineering Intern who is eager to learn and grow in a hands-on environment. This role is perfect for someone excited to work with cutting-edge technology in a startup setting and passionate about improving manufacturing processes.

We operate in a transparent, high-trust environment that values initiative, ownership, and a collaborative spirit.

As a full-time intern on our Manufacturing Engineering team, you’ll be working at our manufacturing facility in Los Angeles. Here, you'll gain exposure to a fast-paced, dynamic environment that values adaptability and teamwork. While each day may bring new challenges, here are some core responsibilities and qualifications expected for this role:

  • Using a combination of hand calculations, prototyping, and software to engineer parts
  • Being involved with building and testing of parts and systems
  • Supporting the ME team in Process refinement and Improvement: Identifying inefficiencies in manufacturing processes and helping yield improvements to enhance build quality, productivity, improve safety and reduce cost.
  • Build Documentation: Creating and updating work instructions, technical specifications, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
Basic qualifications
  • Hands on project and build experience
  • Excellent grasp of the fundamentals of relevant engineering disciplines
  • Exposure to manufacturing methods for engineering parts
  • Clear written and verbal communication
Bonus qualifications
  • Familiarity with high performance electric vehicles, solar cars, Formula SAE, or similar
  • First hand experience operating boats
  • Prior experience in a fast-paced manufacturing setting
  • Ability to articulate and defend engineering decisions
  • Strong time management skills

At Arc, we encourage diversity and consider all qualified applicants equally for employment, regardless of background, identity, or status. You’re always welcome to reach out even if you don’t meet many of these qualifications. Passion and aptitude make up for a lot.
