Overview:

OCTA's Summer College Intern Program is a ten-week paid student/intern program. You will gain real world work experience on meaningful projects under the guidance of transportation professional. You will have the opportunity to use problem solving, communication and decision-making skills as you gain valuable work experience.

As a Summer College Intern, you will be exposed to OCTA's career opportunities in the transportation industry. You will gain deeper awareness of transportation's many facets through your OCTA orientation, projects and teams, and internal networking.

Under direct supervision, students will perform a variety of professional, entry-level duties to obtain practical experience related to their major field of study and interest, and the sponsoring department's current business operations within OCTA and the Transportation Industry.

Employment will be full-time, approximately 40 hours per week, for the duration of the ten-week program.

An internship in the LOSSAN Marketing Department offers a unique opportunity to learn about development and execution of marketing strategies and tactics to build awareness about the Pacific Surfliner train service, which travels 351 miles serving destinations from San Luis Obispo to San Diego.
The internship includes hands-on experience creating and executing marketing strategies to grow ridership on the service. Join a face-paced, creative team that is working to promote train travel and the benefits of the Pacific Surfliner. The role is ideal for those with strong project management abilities and exceptional communication skills, who are looking to gain real-life marketing experience and build a track record of helping to execution quantifiably successful marketing efforts.

Interns are given real-time, entry-level responsibilities that adequately prepare them for the world of work, along with the opportunity to create content and help implement marketing programs and events.

The pay range is from $19.00 - $22.00 per hour depending on your education level. This position is not eligible for employee benefits.

Responsibilities:

  • Supports the LOSSAN Marketing Department in the execution marketing strategies that deliver the best user experience at various touch points to grow engagement and efficacy of Pacific Surfliner marketing channels.
  • Helps develop and implement marketing programs and content across various channels.
  • Coordinates with internal and external teams to implement marketing content, programs, projects and events.

  • Learning about the marketing field.
  • Learning the methods, materials, equipment, and techniques used in LOSSAN Marketing.

Ability to:

  • Perform entry-level professional work
  • Acquire increasingly complex and technical knowledge and skills
  • Assume progressively responsible duties

Qualifications:

Requirements to qualify for the Summer College Intern Program are as follows:

  • College students must be enrolled full-time in a two or four-year college program, at an accredited college or university, and follow a course of study leading to an undergraduate or graduate degree.
  • Students that graduate with their bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in the fall of 2024 or the spring of 2025, are eligible.
  • College students enrolled full-time and pursuing a master’s degree from an accredited college.

Desirable degree program for this assignment is Communications, Marketing, Journalism, English, or Business or related discipline.

Special Qualifications:

  • College students pursuing a course of study leading to an undergraduate degree must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or better.
  • College students pursuing a course of study leading to a graduate degree must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Must submit most recent college transcript.
