Job Overview:
The Environmental Health & Safety Manager carries out the day-to-day operations of the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) department with the assistance of a direct report EHS Specialist, and contributes to the application of effective workplace safety and environmental management at the North Las Vegas facility.
Responsibilities:
- Able to inspect, test, and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices to ensure that they follow safety standards and government regulations
- Prepares written EHS reports as necessary
- Designs and implements workplace processes and procedures to help protect workers from workplace hazards
- Evaluates workplace health and safety programs
- Coordinate with worker’s compensation insurance carrier on industrial hygiene hazard assessments
- Files OSHA 300 Logs and injury reporting as required by law
- Able to demonstrate the correct use of safety equipment
- Assists in compliance reviews and audits, general risk assessments, company compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and other safety assessments in support of EHS management
- Maintains relevant EHS logs and documentation
- Coordinates the purchase, proper use, maintenance, and inspection of necessary safety and personal protective equipment
- Maintains inventory control of personal protective equipment
- Makes recommendations to facility management regarding safety concerns
- Participates in detailed incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis, and promotes incident prevention for the benefit of employees and visitors
- Assists in the development and presentation of relevant EHS training and certification programs
- Provides training on various health and safety topics, tracks and keeps accurate records of same
- Encourages safe working practices, corrects obvious hazards immediately or reports them to the proper personnel
- Able to work with employees to achieve cultural change in the promotion of a safe working environment
- Maintains positive and proactive relations with managers and employees, as well as our customers and regulatory agencies
Qualifications:
- - Walks the facility on a regular basis to establish EHS presence and provide support
- Conducts EHS meetings/trainings and schedule as needed
- Writes, implements, and manages EHS programs, policies, and procedures
- Assists in administering and maintaining safety compliance programs such as LOTO, Fall Protection, Hazard Communication, EAP, Hearing Conservation, PPE, Hot Work, Confined Spaces, Rigging, Powered Industrial Truck, First Aid/CPR etc.
- Has knowledge and is able to enforce compliance of regulatory requirements (i.e., OSHA, Nevada OSHA, EPA, NDEP, etc.), including company EHS policies and procedures
- Performs facility EHS inspections
- Manages outside regulatory agency permits and ensures compliance with permit conditions
- Able to evaluate PPE and ensure proper use and maintenance of same
- Ensures hazardous and universal waste regulatory agency compliance i.e., labeling, containment, proper disposal, documentation, etc.
- Leads emergency response team and provides first aid treatment
- Helps develop Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)
- Organizes third-party subject matter expert inspections and trainings
- Participates/leads Facility and Corporate Safety Committees
- Developments and implements the Integrated ISO Management System.
- Effectively lead company Safety Committee and Management of Change Committee
Experience and Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree with a focus in Occupational Safety & Health Management or related science/engineering degree preferred
- 3-5 years of industrial safety background with general environmental compliance is necessary
- Strong basic computer software skills (MS Office: MS PowerPoint & MS Excel)
- Technical writing ability a plus
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Associated Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) designation preferred
- Leadership skills, ability to foster employee engagement
- Experience in manufacturing and/or oil & gas industries a plus
- Experience in process safety management and ISO 45001/14001 a plus
