Research Scientist Intern - Graduate Level – Assay Design & Sample Analysis (Summer 2025)

Job Description:

JOB OBJECTIVE: Support enzyme kinetics research in the R&D department at Promega. This role focuses on contributing to the advancement of biochemical assays and understanding enzyme mechanisms. The intern will collaborate with the Scientist IV and other team members to design, execute, and analyze experiments, contributing to both academic knowledge and real-world product development.

CORE DUTIES:

  1. Conduct enzyme kinetics experiments, including the preparation of reaction mixtures, monitoring enzyme activity, and analyzing data.
  2. Assist in the development and optimization of new biochemical assays related to enzyme function and inhibition.
  3. Maintain accurate records of experiments and results, ensuring data integrity.
  4. Collaborate with the R&D team to interpret experimental results and contribute to the drafting of research reports.
  5. Stay current with relevant scientific literature and apply new techniques and knowledge to research projects.
  6. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment used in biochemical research.
  7. Present research findings to internal teams in formal and informal settings.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Currently enrolled in a PhD or MS granting program in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology, Cellular and Molecular Pathology, or a related field.
  2. Foundational knowledge of biochemical assays and/or enzyme kinetics.
  3. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  4. Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally.
  5. Proficiency with software for data analysis (e.g., Excel, GraphPad Prism, or R).
  6. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Experience with liquid handling plattaforms such as EpMotion or Hamilton is preferred
  2. Familiarity with laboratory safety protocols and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Ability to remain stationary for extended periods while conducting experiments.
  2. Ability to operate and use laboratory equipment
  3. Ability to use a computer/Microsoft Office applications
