Job Description:

Do you have experience with mental health illness? Do you have a background in crisis intervention? If so, come join Chesapeake Integrated Behavioral Healthcare and help the city of Chesapeake citizens.

This position provides pre-admission screening and crisis intervention to 24 hour Emergency Services unit and CIT Assessment Center. Position performs risk assessments to determine the appropriate level of care using the least restrictive alternative to manage crises.
Advocates for individual requiring inpatient treatment, crisis stabilization or detox services. Requires experience in crisis intervention, diagnosis in the DSM-5-TR with populations including serious mental illness, substance use and intellectual developmental disabilities.

Clinician must possess the ability to relate and communicate with various populations, make clinical decision, analyze psychosocial data and communicate ideas verbally and in writing. Candidate must possess knowledge of state mental health statutes, pre-admission screening criteria and commitment process.

  • Complete pre-admission screening and crisis intervention to 24 hour Emergency Services Unit and the CIT Assessment Center
  • Complete risk assessments to determine the appropriate level of care using the least restrictive alternative to manage crises. Advocates for individuals requiring inpatient treatment, crisis stabilization or detox services.
  • Consults with magistrate regarding and obtaining TDOs and ECOs to promote safety of individuals and the community. Maintains documentation in electronic health record in compliance with agency quality assurance standards. May provide 30 day crisis interventions to individuals who may require short term solution focused interventions.
  • Coordinates admissions to hospitals and other outpatient treatment options.
  • Represents CIBH in commitment hearings
  • Works closely with law enforcement to triage mental health crises in the community.
  • Uses DMS-V-TR to formulate diagnoses
  • Completes crisis assessments and treatment plans
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:

Requires a master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a closely related field, or another degree as approved by the Virginia Department of Health Professions.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

  • Requires State of Virginia licensure as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Professional Counselor (LPC), Clinical Psychologist (LCP).
  • A Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist MD/DO, or a Bachelor’s Prepared Registered Nurse (RN) with five years of experience may be considered in the Emergency Services Program.
  • May consider as a marginal (under-grade) applicant a Resident in Counseling or Supervisee in Social Work applicant who is currently registered with the Board of Health Professions with the ability to obtain licensure within the probationary period.
  • May require Pre-Screening Certification within 6 weeks of employment (12 weeks for part-time staff) for those in the Emergency Services Program.
  • Depending on the position, it may require a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with the City’s Driving Standards.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Rehabilitation or another Master’s degree that may qualify for independent practice is REQUIRED. LCSW or LPC preferred. Supervisee in Social Work or Resident in Counseling will also be considered.
