Overview:
GDC IT Solutions is currently seeking a hybrid Information Assurance and Security Specialist Journeyman in the Washington, D.C. area.

As an IA & SS Journeyman, you will be responsible for maintaining and monitoring the day-to-day operations of the client’s IT infrastructure, with a focus on security. Your role will involve managing physical, virtual, and cloud-based systems, ensuring compliance with security standards, and providing technical support across various teams.You will also be involved in upgrading systems, implementing security features, and troubleshooting issues as they arise.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and monitor the operation of the client’s IT infrastructure, focusing on security (both physical, virtual, and cloud environments).
- Perform OS, security, and application upgrades of servers and network components.
- Develop, implement, and enforce documented standards and procedures for system design, installation, modification, and documentation.
- Coordinate and monitor project activities within the client’s infrastructure group.
- Perform log analysis of Firewall, Active Directory, Switches, and other deployed security products; use vulnerability assessment tools to identify and mitigate issues.
- Research, analyze, and apply patches to systems to ensure compliance with client’s mandates.
- Respond to escalation calls from Help Desk, Desktop Support, and other teams to resolve security issues and perform system maintenance.
- Assist Service Desk technicians with Tier I and Tier II troubleshooting and patching of desktop systems, software, printer issues, and server-related problems.
- Recommend methods and techniques for resolving technical issues.
- Initiate preventive maintenance for technical systems.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 6-10 years of experience developing, maintaining, and recommending enhancements to IS policies and requirements.
- 6-10 years of experience performing vulnerability/risk analyses of computer systems and applications.
- 6-10 years of experience identifying, reporting, and resolving security violations.
- Experience with patching Server 2008/2012/2016 and Desktop Windows 10/7.
- Experience with Firewall management using CISCO NGFW.
- Proficiency in VMware 5.5/6.0.
- Experience in production support and troubleshooting server and desktop systems.
- Bachelor's Degree in IT or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Preferred Experience:
Preferred Experience- Familiarity with vulnerability assessment tools such as Nessus and Tripwire.
- Experience with NIST 800-53.
- Knowledge of Splunk for security and log management.
- Cloud experience, particularly with Microsoft Azure.
- Security+, CISSP, or other relevant security certifications.
