Medical Assistant II
Overview:
This is a full-time position for an advanced medical assistant in the department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, providing outpatient care for our patients and assisting our physicians in all clinical areas of the practice. Assists Physicians and Nurses with medical examination and minor procedures of patients.
Responsibilities:
Assist physicians, providers and nurses as a medical assistant in the daily care of our patients.
Takes vital signs such as height, weight, temperature, and blood pressure. May draw blood and give injections under the immediate supervision of a Physician or RN.
Prepare patient for examination.
Collect and prepare laboratory specimens.
Chaperon and assist during minor surgeries, office procedures and diagnostic procedures.
Maintain clean, well-equipped examination rooms; clean and sterilize instruments.
Stock examination rooms and triage area with medical supplies. Monitor inventory and order medical supplies as needed.
Prepare charts for pending office appointment; creates new patient charts, checks charts for referrals and authorization prior to visit
Obtain and writes referral, when appropriately trained and directed, and schedule outside appointments with specialists as directed.
Ensure that appropriate data (i.e. Labs, medical records) are available prior to the appointment.
Create and update prenatal lab form in the medical record prior to the patient’s appointment.
Obtain labs and clinic notes from referring Provider’s office
Obtain all inpatient records and labs prior to scheduled appointment
Obtain all specialty clinical notes, procedures, operative reports, and labs prior to appointment
Obtain all required lab results, provider notes, and recent ultrasound reports prior to scheduled MFM ultrasound
Receive and complete assigned tasks from providers
Participate in all staff meetings, education lectures and quality improvement activities. Presentations at meetings may be requested.
Assist with training of new Medical Assistants.
Document all information in EMR.
Prepare education packets and folders.
Check EMR tasks daily
Review patient lab results, discuss abnormal findings with the physician and follow up with patient in regard to treatment as necessary
Performs other duties as assigned, according to the individual departmental needs

Qualifications:
EDUCATION: Completion of a Medical Assistant program and certification (RMA or CMA). Completion of BLS class and re-certify every 2 years.
EXPERIENCE:
Successful completion of a Medical Assistant program and certification.
Prior clinical experience in a doctor’s office. Women’s health experience preferred but not required.
Experience in a “fast paced” ambulatory setting.
Ability to balance multiple priorities and tasks.
Ability to make professional decisions under the supervision of the physicians and licensed nurses.
Possess professional interaction skills with physicians, outside offices, pharmacies, referring agencies, hospital personnel and support staff.
Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
Have the ability to read and comprehend all information required for this position
Have the ability to calculate figures and amounts required for medication administration.
