Job Description:
This role is based in a Cardiology setting, and the ideal candidate must have EKG experience. The Medical Assistant III will interact directly with patients in a clinic setting, completing various tasks such as obtaining vital signs, performing EKGs, phlebotomy, and verifying medications.This position offers training in HIPAA and medical terminology during the onboarding process.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Take vital signs and update medications.
- Prepare for office hours by obtaining charts, scheduling tests, and preparing exam rooms.
- Assist with examinations, procedures, and lab tests.
- May assist with renewal and authorization of non-narcotic medications as per standing orders and department guidelines.
- Administer medications under the order of physicians or nurse practitioners, including vaccines and injections (IM and subcutaneous).
- Direct patient flow, assist with special procedures/treatments, and complete requisitions.
- Route phone messages, patient questions, and telephone communications to the appropriate personnel.
- Assist with care coordination tasks, including calling patients with test results, scheduling appointments, assisting physicians with return calls, scheduling surgeries, diagnostic procedures, and admissions.
- Monitor new and return patient contacts, including scheduling and follow-up appointments.
- Complete paperwork and documentation in a timely manner.
- Answer basic patient/family questions regarding treatments, diagnoses, and procedures.
- Perform order entry in the electronic medical record when required, completing requisitions/orders per guidelines.
- Monitor supply inventory, ensuring compliance with regulations and sufficient availability of supplies and equipment.
- Clean and stock exam rooms and sterilize instruments.
- Maintain required HIPAA compliance, skills, and competencies. Participate in in-services, staff programs, continuing education, and cross-training according to established standards and policies.
- Comply with OSHA, state, and federal regulations.
- Participate in quality improvement activities to ensure appropriate clinical outcomes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Medical Assistant certification is required.
- BLS certification is required.
- 4-5 years of experience working as a Medical Assistant.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with physicians, patients, families, and support staff.
- Experience with electronic medical records.
- Working knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Strong organizational and telephone skills.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent certification.
- Medical Assistant certification from an accredited program (NHA, AAMA, or AMT). Online proctored exams are not accepted.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (online certifications without a skills assessment component are not accepted).
Certifications & Licenses:
- BLS (CPR)
