Early Learning Center Cook and Housekeeping (Part-time) - New Bern

Position Summary**: Under the direct supervision of the Community Impact Director in harmony with the Christian values and purpose of this Association and in accordance with the policies of the Association, the ***Learning Center Cook / Housekeeper*** will be directly responsible and accountable for the management, safety and quality of the delivery meals and snacks to the Learning Center participants and the overseeing of site cleanliness.

**Essential Functions**:

  • Plan, organize, prepare, and cook healthy lunches and snacks that meet USDA Meal Program requirements
  • Ensure work area is maintained in a safe and sanitary manner; ensure the cleaning of kitchen equipment and utensils on a routine and regular basis.
  • Plan, create, and distribute menus according to the USDA Meal Program and state licensing requirements.
  • Maintain inventory and keep a list of supplies and food needed for purchase.
  • Retain a variety of records and reports as required by the state and the Community Impact Director.
  • Develop and keep a positive rapport with staff, children, and families.
  • Follow all regulations from the State of North Carolina or other agencies as directed by the Community Impact Director
  • Uphold the core values of the YMCA when working with people within the Learning Center and community.
  • Attend required training as needed.
  • Attend meetings when requested.
  • Other duties as assigned. Education and Experience

**Requirements**:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Safe Food Handling Certification
  • 1-2 years of food service experience
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED certification

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:

  • Work closely and have good communication with the Community Impact Director
  • Set a positive example for subordinate staff to follow in work ethic, communication skills, attitude, resourcefulness, and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated excellence interpersonal and customer service/relations skills including verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with a wide variety of people including YMCA personnel, public, and volunteers.
  • Demonstrates the Y core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility through all daily activities and responsibilities.
  • Must demonstrate strong attention to detail.
  • Solid organizational skills to coordinate multiple responsibilities efficiently with the ability to meet required deadlines.
  • Must be able to maintain appropriate confidentially of sensitive financial, personal, and client information.

**Physical Requirements**:

  • Must be able to lift, pull, and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, bend, twist
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to practice good listening skills, and speak clearly
**Job Type**: Part-time

**Pay**: $12.00 - $14.00 per hour
