Sterile Instr Tech (non-certified) Entry Level - Will Train and Certify

This position is responsible for cleaning, sterilizing, assembling, issuing and storing supplies and equipment required for use in caring for the patient. This position also assists in the transportation of surgical patients as needed.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
- High School Graduate or equivalent.
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
- Central Service Technician certification.
Other duties may be assigned.
- Monitors and replaces supplies within the department, checking expiration dates on a monthly basis
- Issues and charges supplies and equipment correctly.
- Reports requests for supplies and equipment or complaints received from the nursing units to the Supervisor.
- Reprocesses equipment and prepares reusable items for sterilization.
- Assembles, wraps, and sterilizes trays and linens within the parameters of Event Related Sterility.
- Reports any infections, or upper respiratory infections to Supervisor.
- Cleans work area, storage area, and sterilizes routinely.
- Maintains sterilization records and the results of biological testing.
- Transfers surgery patients when necessary.
- Monitors condition of all equipment housed and notifies the supervisor if repairs are needed.
- Performs equipment checks daily.

- Requires prolonged standing, sitting, and walking.
- Must be able to carry 40 pounds 50 feet.
- Requires full range of body motion with ability to turn, lift and transfer patients and equipment.
- Requires full manual finger dexterity and normal eye-hand coordination.
- Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal range.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of the principles of decontamination, reprocessing and sterilization of instruments and equipment used in the care of the surgical patient.
- Must be able to work well in a stressful environment as a part of a team.
