Medical Record Nurse
This is a full-time hybrid position working 8:00 am- 4:30 pm Monday through Friday for a total of 37.5 hours per week. The pay rate for this position is $39.00 per hour.
Medical Record Nurse Job Overview:The Tennessee Birth Defects Surveillance System (TNBDSS) within the Family Health and Wellness (FHW) Division of the Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) is looking for a Medical Record Coordinator and Abstractor.The Medical Record Coordinator & Abstractor will serve as a subject matter expert for birth defects case management and will be primarily responsible for medical record processing and abstraction.
This position is a full- time hybrid position
- alternate work solutions (AWS/Remote) and will require the candidate to on-site a minimum of 1-2 times per month at the Central Office located in Nashville.
-Requesting medical records of persons with suspected or identified birth defects (maternal and infant) from birthing facilities and Healthcare Providers in Tennessee using a developed algorithm.-Conducting case verification on all reports received on key birth defect diagnoses using medical records.-Reviewing assigned medical records (digital, electronic, and hard copies) and extracting relevant information.-Cross-referencing information from multiple sources to ensure abstracted data is complete and accurate.-Performing data entry into iCMS database for abstracted medical records.-Reviewing data entry by non-clinical staff to ensure clinical accuracy.-Submitting service referrals to appropriate social services when indicated.-Working closely with the TNBDSS Team to identify issues and ensure data processes are complete and accurate.-Maintaining partnerships with birthing facility HIM staff and providing feedback as it relates to process improvements.-Maintaining HIPAA compliance at all times.-Working independently, responsibly, and efficiently; problem-solving and communicating when needs are present.-Completing abstraction assignments on time with minimal supervision.-Attending weekly meetings with the TNBDSS team.-Maintaining ongoing education on developments in patient care, data management, birth defects, healthy pregnancy, and health equity.
