Overview:
Day Camp Counselor position is responsible for the supervisions of campers in a small group setting. To further the purposes of the YMCA by building relationships and developing character in all YMCA constituents. Under the guidance and supervision of the Senior Manager of Youth Development, Day Camp Counselor provides direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal day camp.Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, caring, courage and inclusion. Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the general safety and supervision of campers in assigned group.
- Identify and meet each camper’s needs. This includes, learning likes/dislikes, recognizing and responding to opportunities for problem solving, interaction between campers and staff, creating
- Carry out camp program objectives. This includes, establishing roles for supervising camper health, establishing roles in enforcing camp safety regulations, supervising all assigned aspects of the
- Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
- Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
- Attends staff meetings and trainings.
- Supervise and participate in all assigned aspects of the camper’s day which includes but is not limited to: Camper sign in and sign out; lunch times, extended am and extended pm duties as assigned.
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
- Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Previous experience working with children, preferably in a day camp setting. Desire and ability to work with children.
- Ability to relate to one’s peer group, as well as ability to accept supervision and guidance.
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training during Pre-Season Camp Trainings.
- Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
- Must possess good character, integrity, adaptability, enthusiasm, sense of humor patience, and self-control.
- Set a good example for campers and others including cleanliness, punctuality, and sportsmanship.
- Positive, “can do” attitude which is demonstrated by a willingness to pitch in and help wherever needed as well as an ability to anticipate what is needed.

Posted Salary Range: USD $16.50 - USD $17.00 /Hr.
