Position Summary:
The Workers Compensation Program Manager (WCPM) will serve as the subject matter expert and clinical leader in their state/area in treatment of the injured worker, appropriate case progression, employer injury prevention solutions, job demands analysis, ergonomics, and post-offer employment testing.
This individual will drive consistency and performance to best clinical and operational practices in collaboration with other members of Athletico’s Workers Compensation clinical expert community across the country, as well as local clinical operations leaders across the area/state.

This will be achieved through development and implementation of clinical programs, training, coaching and mentoring therapists across their state/area. Additionally, this individual will apply their clinical expertise through delivery of specialized services for a portion of their time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The below is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the organization and the overall business objectives of the organization.
  • Oversee Worker’s Compensation clinical operations in a specific area/state to include program development, people management and development, and operational/process development and improvement
  • Develop and/or implement clinical programs to enhance service lines or deploy new service lines, and ultimately improve the breadth and quality of care delivered by Athletico clinicians
  • Deliver and/or oversee training programs to new and tenured therapists across the state/area to expand and/or strengthen the skillset of these therapists as it relates to injury prevention and Workers Compensation treatment services, and to broadly deploy best clinical practices
  • Existing Workers’ Compensation service lines with company-wide training programs include, work conditioning, functional capacity evaluations, functional status reports, developing and executing an entire plan of care for an injured worker, etc.
  • Evaluate performance KPIs across the area, within regions, and of specific clinics to identify opportunities to drive improvement and upskilling of staff to enhance performance through coaching, training, or clinical auditing
  • Where relevant, oversee Workers Compensation Specialists who provide specialty clinical services across the state/area; this oversight to include regular performance discussions, annual performance appraisals, and other managerial responsibilities
  • Deliver clinical services and/or patient care on a regular basis; however, the frequency and portion of is to be agreed to with clinical operations leadership
  • Key services which may be in scope include functional capacity evaluations, work conditioning evaluations, traditional physical or occupational therapy for Workers Compensation patients, etc.
  • Perform, or oversee those who perform, medical necessity audits on Workers Compensation patients
  • Support clinical staff as needed in engaging key Workers Compensation stakeholders, such as physicians, case managers, and adjusters, to address patient issues
  • Support Sales team on business growth opportunities, such as building relationships with employers, case managers, insurance adjusters, physicians, and attorneys to source new patient volume
  • Support clinicians or other staff in developing employer specific services, such as post-offer testing, early intervention near-site visits, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s, Masters or Doctorate Degree from an accredited Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy or Athletic Training Program
  • Work Experience:
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience with acute work rehabilitation and work injury prevention program services required
  • Minimum 3 years’ management level experience required
  • Certification/Licensure:
  • Current Professional licensure or eligible for license to practice Athletic Training, Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy in the state(s) of responsibility
  • Current CPR certification
  • Knowledge and Technical Skills:
  • Subject matter expertise in the areas of Work Injury Prevention and Work Rehabilitation Program Services required
  • Demonstrated experience creating an environment of inclusion and teamwork among the WC clinician community to foster clinical excellence and outstanding patient care and customer relations
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently communicate a clear understanding of patient/client expectations and adapt as appropriate to exceed their needs
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, develop, and mentor staff to optimize their performance
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly organize and effectively convey information

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently

  • Ability to see at close range, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20-25 pounds
  • Frequent travel required

Work Environment:

  • Consistent with a standard environment, noise level is low with little to no extraordinary environmental factors.
  • Occasional exposure to industrial settings for injury prevention solutions, job demands analysis, and ergonomic assessments.
