Systems Development Engineer, Amazon Robotics R&D - Engineering

Amazon Robotics is seeking a System Development Engineer to join our team and help shape the future of our software delivery pipeline for one of the world's largest robotics fleets. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the CI/CD infrastructure that enables our teams to reliably and securely deploy software to robots operating in Amazon facilities worldwide.

We're looking for someone who is passionate about building scalable and reliable automation systems, has strong problem-solving skills, and can work effectively with software and firmware engineering teams to streamline their development workflows.

Key job responsibilities
  • Design and implement robust CI/CD pipelines that support multiple software stacks, from embedded firmware to high-level applications
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure as code to automate build, test, and deployment processes
  • Create and improve tools for monitoring deployment health and managing rollbacks when necessary
  • Work with security teams to implement and maintain secure software delivery practices
  • Work with development teams to optimize build times and improve developer productivity
  • Participate in on-call rotation to help with critical deployment infrastructure
  • Mentor team members on CI/CD best practices and automation techniques

About the team

Amazon Robotics’ firmware team is a comprised of super-smart doers who work passionately to apply advances in robotics to solve real-world challenges. We take our responsibility for safety seriously but challenge ourselves to produce the right product that also gives us the performance we need.
We pay attention to the details so others don't have to, and strive to make systems that are natural and intuitive to use so that safety doesn't need a second thought. Our work directly impacts the velocity and quality of software delivery for Amazon's robotics systems.- Experience in automating, deploying, and supporting large-scale infrastructure
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
  • Experience with Linux/Unix
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar platforms- Exposure to embedded or robotic systems development workflows, which may include experience designing, developing, or debugging robotics, consumer electronics, medical devices, automotive systems, avionics, industrial, or telecommunications products.
  • Experience in tools for custom embedded Linux distribution creation such as Buildroot or Yocto.
  • Experience programming with one additional modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Rust, JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Knowledge of AWS services and cloud infrastructure
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools
  • Familiarity with security best practices in software delivery
  • Experience with large-scale deployment systems
  • Experience mentoring other engineers and driving technical initiatives

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $116,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $201,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
