About the Job:
Sandy Spring Bank is hiring a Senior Fiduciary Officer. The Senior Fiduciary Oficcer assists Chief Fiduciary Officer and Manager of Personal Trust Administration (CFO) in providing counsel and oversight on fiduciary matters related to the Trust Department, researching laws, rules and regulations applicable to the fiduciary activities of the Trust Department, providing research, legal analysis, opinions and recommendations regarding pending or potential litigation.Manages a team of Trust Officers and Trust Associates. Leads the postmortem administration group and the postmortem administration committee (PAC). Serves as the primary administrator on certain high value and/or complex fiduciary accounts and postmortem accounts.
MAJOR JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Management/Leadership/Fiduciary Management
- Manages a team of assigned Trust Officers and Trust Associates, and exercises authority regarding performance reviews, training and development needs, and personnel actions.
- Leads Postmortem Administration Team and heads Postmortem Accounts Committee (PAC).
- Provides coaching, training, and assistance for direct reports (and others as warranted) to develop knowledge, skills and abilities to maximize performance and potential, and acts as a resource on escalated issues.
- Assists, mentors, and provides advice as needed to all Trust Administration team members on fiduciary and legal matters and matters relating to postmortem administrations, and acts as a resource to Trust Administration Team on escalated issues.
- Assists CFO in researching fiduciary issues, tax, laws, regulations, and other matters (e.g. possible fiduciary or other missteps/problems), and stays current on changes in trust, estate, and tax law, participating in external training programs designed to enhance knowledge of fiduciary laws, rules and regulations.
- Assist CFO in monitoring legal environment (e.g. changes in state or federal laws, rules and regulations, case law, etc.), and in communicating relevant updates to colleagues in the Trust Department.
- Collaborates with CFO, Personal Trust Administration Manager, and Compliance Manager to develop and implement policies and procedures relative to effectively handling fiduciary and compliance issues.
- Reviews and interprets estate planning and other legal documents to ensure proper application of provisions and appropriate administration of fiduciary and investment management accounts.
- Assists CFO in review of draft estate planning documents for existing and certain prospective clients when requested and/or required per internal document review checklist.
- Assists CFO in preparing or reviewing agreements and other legal documents for fiduciary matters and/or acting as liaison to and supervises outside counsel and other outside professionals in matters where Sandy Spring Bank is serving as a fiduciary.
- Participates in, and acts as a resource for, events and activities sponsored by Sandy Spring Trust and/or Sandy Spring Bank, to enhance the reputation of the company with regional centers of influence.
- Work in conjunction with the CFO and Compliance Officer and act as a liaison with federal regulators on Trust audit and related matters.

- Fiduciary Administration and Risk Management
- Serves as the primary administrator on certain high value and/or complex fiduciary accounts, administering such accounts in a manner which adheres to governing instruments, bank policy, regulation and law, while reducing the Bank’s risk exposure in the administration of its fiduciary responsibilities.
- Provides clients and beneficiaries with information and problem resolution in a timely manner.
- Responds in an effective manner with outside professionals regarding account administration.
- Responds to requests by beneficiaries, clients and other individuals and organizations who have an account interest.
- Expands client relationships by cross-selling additional products and services, to include identification of other banking needs. Actively seeks to increase assets under management and fee income for department.
Required Skills:
- Attorney with a minimum of 5-10 years of experience in fiduciary law, estate and trust administration and/or legal compliance requirements for Bank’s service as fiduciary in trust and estate matters, and significant experience administering postmortem trusts and estates.
- Familiarity with personal income, trust and estate tax obligations and filing requirements.
- Demonstrated experience in analyzing legal issues and drafting professional communications.
- Creative, critical and strategic thinking required to interpret, amend and/or create internal strategies, initiatives and policy, and to clearly communicate same to colleagues.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills are needed to effectively work with internal and external clients to explain Trust Department services and internal policy.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills are needed to maintain positive and productive rapport with colleagues and clients.
- Various situations require a substantial degree of analysis, interpretation and evaluation. Situations encountered may include facts, issues and circumstances which are significantly different from those previously addressed. These situations call for the consideration of alternative courses of action, and their respective consequences, before taking or recommending further action.
SPECIFIC PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work requires reasonable mobility in and around the work area. Ability to use standard computer and phone systems is required
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Normal office environment where there is almost no discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise, or other disagreeable elements.
Work includes little or no potential exposure to hazardous conditions.
Must be able to travel to remote company and/or client locations.

Compensation Information:
At Sandy Spring Bank, compensation is one part of our total rewards package. Compensation within the range will depend on your skills, qualifications, education, experience, and location.
