Overview:

Manage payroll function to ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll and applicable taxes, in compliance with government regulations.

Responsibilities:

Leadership and Direction
  • Receive broad guidance from senior-level management relating to overall key objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters and general parameters for execution. Manage people and processes to ensure effective execution. Review work produced by staff for quality assurance.
At the Operational and Company Level
  • Ensure timely submission of timesheets.
  • Create ad hoc reports on earnings, taxes and deductions as required by management.
Do the Work
  • Process and reconcile payroll on a biweekly basis.
  • Prepare and issue paychecks.
  • Follow up on submission of timesheets.
  • Calculate and audit timesheets and make corrections as necessary.
  • Establish and maintain payroll files in accordance with audit requirements.
  • Maintain records of leave and nontaxable wages.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll matters.
  • Research payroll tax issues and manage tax applications.
  • Process new hires, terminations, manual/out of cycle checks, bonuses, salary adjustments, garnishments, and new hire state reporting.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts related to payroll.
  • Create basic ad-hoc reports on earnings, taxes and deductions as required by management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field required.
  • Eight or more (8+) years of experience handling computerized, multi-state payroll administration (preferably in house) and knowledge of payroll laws and regulations in a multi-state environment.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills in reporting, data analysis, data manipulation, pivot tables.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification preferred.
  • Experience with UKG Pro and Deltek Vision strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), FAR, Labor and Payroll Laws.

Physical Demands and Working Environment:

  • Primarily indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
  • Mobility around an office environment.
  • Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
