Wieland is hiring a Production Manager. The Production Manager will be responsible for planning, coordination and control of the manufacturing process. They ensure that the manufacturing process is safe and efficient by allocating resources based on need and cost.The Production Manager works closely with supervisors, planners and maintenance to plan work, set targets, and make sure that the finished products meet customer specifications for quality and on-time delivery. This role is located in Waterbury, CT and will be fully on-site.
Responsibilities:
Production Manager Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain practices, procedures, equipment and behaviors in the production department to achieve zero OSHA recordable injuries.
- WFS and SAP management and training. Operations functions done in APS.
- Effectively help to manage the production department in accordance with all WMS policies and regulatory standards, and discretionary limits set forth by the Operations Manager.
- Leads and organizes a variety of projects, including engaging the stakeholders, assembling the teams and managing the budget.
- Ensure all resources are readily available for a smooth operation.
- Assist in developing standard work procedures and continuous improvement plans utilizing kaizen events, MDI information and various management and team meetings.
- Assist Operations Manager in achieving agreed upon productivity savings targets.
- Minimize the cost of production operations by continuous improvements in labor utilization, recovery, machine utilization and throughput.
- Assist in the development of production personnel and supervision through effective training, role descriptions, and performance reviews.
- Provide relief coverage to management in the department by covering vacations, FMLA, and personal time off for Operations Supervisors
- Effectively communicate cross-functionally with internal team members and across WMS sites to ensure coordination of production, maintenance and development activities.
- Provide effective employee and labor relations practices compliant with the collective bargaining agreement.
Production Manager Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related field required.
- Minimum of 5 years’ production experience, preferably in metals industry
- Thorough understanding of a union plant and operating within a collective bargaining agreement
- Able to provide leadership and guidance to staff, fostering a strong team environment
- Knowledge of department processes
- Knowledge of equipment maintenance, safety management and process management
- Strong analysis, critical thinking, and assessment abilities.
- Strong problem-solver, with a customer service attitude and orientation
- Solid decision-maker, utilizing sound judgment and understanding of the issues
- Analytical thinker who can break down complex problems into manageable components
- Interpersonal leader with solid verbal and written communication skills
- Strong managerial skills and the ability to motivate staff
- High level of integrity and confidentiality
- Solid time management skills and the ability to plan, schedule and prioritize workload
- Attention to detail and accuracy of information
